gotcha, just wanted to make sure it was known that I in no way agreed with what the idiot was saying.

I went back & forth on saying something specifically for this reason, tbh. Don't wanna be a jerk about it.

I've just grown more & more tired of the Twitter trend of retweet critiques & don't like that it's also a trend here, especially in threads for movies starring women. Just wanna enjoy my movies w/out patriarchy being brought to the front of my mind, y'know? I'd get it more if it were a high profile figure or someone connected w/ the movie, something like that where "accountability in media" comes into the equation. Or even if it's going after some harrassment campaign.

I guess I just don't get the appeal of fixating on trash randos online & giving 'em free rent in your mind & free promotion if it's not actually in the context of challenging power structures, etc.

Guess I was just trying to share something that I saw as absolutely ridiculous and that I didn't agree with, and that we will probably see a lot more of. Not fixating on anything, just thought people would get a kick out of the shit opinion. Now that I know it'll get dissected like it was, I'll refrain from doing it from now on. Not worth the trouble.

Honestly, the vibe I've gotten from trailers is that it's just a Harley Quinn vehicle with random side characters. Like the marketing for this has been rather poor in my opinion.

got my prescreening pass for this, and they're playing it at the arclight for some reason instead of the usual amc/regal so that's interesting

Fan reactions call ‘Birds Of Prey’ "more Tarantino and less comic book film”

As always, take early twitter reactions with a huge grain of salt, but for the most part it sounds in line with what was expected - It's violent, Harley Quinn holds it all together, it's different than anything Marvel is doing, etc.

What excites me the most is Cathy Yan and Margot Robbie getting creative freedom to go wild with this.

    So assuming that this weekend...

I won a contest through my local comic book store (shout out to the Comic Bug in Culver City!) to attend a preview screening of this tonight. I'm really excited about the movie, despite the fact that the marketing behind it has the same Hot Topic look and feel of Suicide Squad, which we all know was a flaming pile of dog turds. I'll report back, but I feel more likely than not that I'll really enjoy it.

  14. A lot of the praise is for the stunt work and action scenes, which makes me excited.

Here a couple of the more critical reactions I've seen

Much of what I expected. It’s a heavy Harley central focused film and the other characters have little to no development, but Margot as Harley is great.

Birds of Prey is probably my favorite DC movie since the Nolan Batman trilogy. The film fully takes advantage of its R rating. The violence, humor, and tone are very similar to the Deadpool films. When it comes to action and fight choreography, it might be ones of the best I’ve seen in the comic book genre altogether. Margot kills it, as usual, and McGregor is a great villain whose easy to hate. The whole cast is on point.

Bottom line: it’s fantastic. See it when it comes out.

In my excitement over other aspects of this film, I forgot that Chad Stahelski worked w/ Cathy Yan on this. Your comment about the action has added to my already high excitement. This is gonna seriously rule.

  21. I can't imagine the action is on quite the same level, but there have been several comparisons to John Wick in the early twitter reactions.

In terms of overall violence, blood, and body count it's not quite at John Wick level, but it comes close. There are some particular baseball bat scenes that come to mind that'll rival any modern action movie.

I need to spend less time staring into the sun. The terrible incel takes of "harley quinn and the women not being hot enough" are being picked up by anti-SJW twitter/youtube in their crusade against cancel culture, feminism, and anything that "disrespects" their fragile toxic fandom.

If you look for it, you can find it. Def not linking back to these morons

there was a really great twitter thread that Gale Simone did that talked about the actual stunt work and long camera takes to showcase the fighting, so i think at the very least it'll compare in that its really impressive stunt work actually done by the actors. love the john wick films, so any fight and stunt work striving to that, i'm on board haha
