I’m trying to remember which street basketball game allowed you to face off against Kobe in his mansion and it was the coolest thing ever.

 

I had no idea this conversation was taking place around the term Metroidvania. I honestly don't even know what else I'd call those kinds of games though. Upgrade Platformers? But not all Metroidvanias are platformers necessarily. Idk.

His point of "isn't it easy to say "this game is like Dark Souls/Metroid"?" is exactly why I don't see a problem with it. It points directly to something where you can draw the most accurate comparisons.

Which is why it should be called Metroidlikes and not Metroidvanias. Soulslike, Roguelike, Metroidlike. It's the only one that completely differs.

 

They call it Metroidvania because usually games fall somewhere in between Metroid and Castlevania, I think

Finally finished Life Is Strange after almost exactly 5 years.

Episodes 4 & 5 might as well have been a completely different game

 

I think Metroidvania is a shitty name because a Metroid game and a Castlevania game barely have anything in common.

 

Right, for example: Castlevania games that do not play like shit exist ;D

Bloodstained, Hollow Knight, and Guacamelee are all fire.


Unless your saying Metroid is bad? Which I only have Fusion as a reference point, and it’s amazing.

 

Hollow Knight is amazing. As is Metroid. Mostly Super Metroid if we are talking the originals.

 

Aren't like the GBA Metroid games just like the GBA Castlevania games? Been a while since I touched those Metroid games.
