  2. That was before I clicked through. Glad he didn't cover it, how he still has a job at Pitchfork baffles me.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

Ian Cohen fucking sucks, but he's not the sole problem. there's a wide-ranging/ingrained issue with this language at pitchfork, it goes beyond what individual writers say

they have a history of extremely shitty language and behaviour when talking about artists with mental health issues, and doubling down when they get called out on their bullshit. Ian Cohen is the worst offender - he regularly makes light of or minimises the mental health struggles an artist might going through; the worst example being (spoiler-marked for potentially triggering subject matter) shamelessly speculating about Scott Hutchison's mental health both before and after he died, and criticising him in their Painting of a Panic Attack review for not using enough humour to offset his self-loathing lyrics in the album. he's done a bunch of other shit, I don't have the mental space to keep it all but I think I remember his Foxing reviews having some garbage language too.

if you want an example from another writer, there's the time they criticised James Blake's "Don't Miss It" for being, in their words "sad boy music". Blake responded with a heartfelt, eloquent post about how unhealthy their language is, how they minimise both artists and people reading who might be struggling with these things (in Blake's case, anxiety). Pitchfork's response to this was... doubling down when the album came out, calling it "suffocatingly serious" and pointing out how much he uses the word "I" in the album without actually addressing any of their wrongdoings writing about "Don't Miss It".

again, there's probably examples I'm missing here; I refuse to read pitchfork for my own health now unless it's a writer I know and trust beforehand. I just think it should be common knowledge how backwards and damaging they can be, in an era when it's more important than ever to be conscious of this kind of language.

I wasn’t trying to be condescending towards you it’s something I find legitimately jarring in other threads on this site, and it’s just needlessly insecure and petty.

I have an acquaintance who is the ultimate music snob and somebody who exclusively only advertises that she listens to less-known artists and will bash anything relatively well-known, then I saw shes a top fan on pitchforks facebook page and it just reaffirmed everything i've ever thought about pitchfork.

    This song is beautiful

  14. I really don't see who else that verse could be about and Chad's just being disingenuous as fuck here. They were together for what, a decade?

    Assume It's A Bit

That "don't assume things, she hasn't said explicitly it's about me" line of reasoning is so ridiculous when at least part of the song (and potentially a good chunk of this project) is clearly about him.

Just realised what it reminded me most of - Warpaint. It's got that real groove and mood to it, plus some of the atmospheric synths and noises scattered around.

Can't wait to hear the album.

I think it does when it’s abt a woman taking control of the narrative and exposing that she was treated poorly, honestly. Speaking truth to power and all that.

They've announced a festival date for this year, and I saw a pic posted yesterday of Jenny Lee in the studio, so I think they must be putting something out this year!
