You can basically remove them from the window if you want though. They were just extra skins that that they decided to give an even sword hotbox to. It's not like they took a roster spot from another character.

They actually did take the roster spot of another character. They got their own character slot instead of being an alt skin which they should’ve been.

They’re not extra skins if they have their own hitbox and speeds and minor nuances! The developers took time into making them and Daisy and Zero Suit and other echoes that could have been spent on new unique fighters!

Do people seriously think that the amount of time to make an echo fighter is anywhere near the time it takes to make a fully fledged character from scratch? An echo fighter probably took a week or two max considering they had existing meshes, animations, and movesets to work with. All of the development beyond minor tweaks in traits would have still been done even if they were just skins.

The total time spent on making every echo fighter in the game wouldn't add up the time it takes to make one brand new character. Complaining about them is silly.

How do you know they would have made more new characters for the game if they didn't spend the minor amount of time it took to make Lucina's sword damage output lower but even across the whole blade? I doubt they said "here is the number of characters we can have" and used echo fighters to reach the quota.

What's getting overlooked in all this is how all the blue-haired swordsman technically have perpetual blue balls.

The amount of time they used on making echoes could have been used for a new unique character. That seems like taking a character slot to me. They decided to use that time for glorified alt skins instead of a newcomer.

Especially since this will probably be the last smash for a long time, I don’t want anymore alt skins to be announced as new characters when they could be actual unique characters instead.

I mean all the DLC characters that people are paying for are unique and not alt skins-echo fighters, right? Because they did some palate swap/skin changes in between base games (in which they added other completely unique characters) doesn’t seem to be taking away from the original fighters they're also releasing. The amount of Fire Emblem echo fighters included is a weak argument for me, because it all feels like bonus content

What I'm saying is it takes months and months of development to make one character. The extra work it takes to make a skin an echo could be knocked out in a couple days. You underestimate how much development it takes to make one unique character.

Also Byleth is a completely unique character. No glorified alt skins have been released as DLC.

Counter point, all characters are reusing elements of models and frame data from other characters as a base, they just add a lot of extra stuff and develop the character.

Echo fighters do very likely do not actually consumer any resources that could have been used to make more unique fighters, that's not really how it usually works, Smash is not some small indie production

Also new guy is not an echo fighter

I never said blyeth is an echo. I dislike byleth because an 8th rep of a franchise like FE as DLC, especially the last in a pack, is lame

This is my first Smash game, and I’m loving it. Great example of a game being easy to play, but hard to master.

though I’m p good with Kirby, and Pac-Man

I’m obviously not the only person who thought wasting a dlc slot for another FE was lackluster. The official reveal video on Nintendo’s YouTube has 68k dislikes. The most for any smash reveal character ever

If they wanted to include another Nintendo character they could have chosen a franchise with low reps. DK only has 3, Star Fox only has 3, Earthbound only has 2, there hasn’t been a new Zelda rep since brawl, but nah, let’s include an 8th fighter from FE....

I understand being underwhelmed about another FE character. My issue was with the idea that echo fighters that would have been alternate skins regardless took away from the development of other character. There is no evidence that there would have been more characters if they didn't make alt. skins into echoes. They were just little bonuses.

I think that people would be a lot less upset with Byleth if they weren't the last fighter of the first pack.

Imagine them thinking that the protagonist of a hugely, internationally successful recent Switch game would be a good character to put in Smash, those weirdos

FE doesn’t need Smash to get more recognition or vice versa. If Nintendo wanted to introduce a character from a recently successful game on Switch they could have easily gone with the protagonists from Astral Chain. I think it just boils down to Sakurai loving FE and feels the need to introduce a character from every big game.

Byleth sucks and making him/her the representative for Three Houses is a joke considering they are the most boring character out of that whole game.

Literally any three of the house leaders would have been awesome. Hell, give me Bernadette and I'd be happy

they couldn’t do a house leader because fans of the other two house would complain so Blythe is the easy choice
