Dallas show was a lot of fun. They did a good job, imo for the first show at an outdoor venue. Layout was cool and the sound was not bad, all things considered.

Modest Mouse killed it. But I'm a huge Modest Mouse fan so...

Only saw the first half of BN's set b/c my friends suck, but they sounded great. One of the better performances from them in the 5 I've seen them.

I went to both Dallas and Austin shows.

    Dallas:

Modest Mouse busted out some songs I hadn't heard from them in ages. "Bukowski" in particular was awesome to hear live. They played maybe an hour and half set. I was surprised they didn't play "Float On" but I loved that they played "Doin' the Cockroach"

Brand New's set was two hours of pure awesome. Loved how they started the set with Jesse Lacey solo on guitar before everyone jumped in for the next set. They had a nice mix.

    Austin:

Brand New's set was slightly shorter since they opened, but Jesse did play the chorus for "How I Wish You Were Here." It was pretty awesome. The songs seemed to be about the same (a few were cut for the shorter set).

Modest Mouse's had the 2 hour set, and the songs were really different from the night before. They actually played "Float On" with a groovier guitar rift.

All in all, great show, great weekend.

Kinda wish I had gone to the Austin show now. Would have loved a 2 hour MM set.

My only complaint with Modest Mouse was that they played quite a few of the same songs they did last time they were in Dallas. Still a great set.

It's hard to be disappointed in a set that begins with Spitting Venom and ends with Grey Ice Water.

Yeah, the set wasn't too much different from their Edgefest set, but it was longer, of course. As much as I'd love to hear more pre-Good News stuff, I can't blame them for playing their newer material, but it all sounded great and made me appreciate some of the new songs more than I previously had.

I'm a pretty big BN fan, I assume I shouldn't miss this when it comes to San Diego tomorrow?

I mean, if you're a fan of either band, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I saw them two nights in a row and didn't regret it once. They played enough from their catalog that I don't think any fan will walk away disappointed. That and their energy were great. You can tell that this show is definitely a tour the bands are doing for themselves and their fans. No sponsor, no opening bands, just them and music.

^ what they said. It's the best I've seen both bands perform. They sounded so good.

@dhayes What'd you think of Verizon Field? I was expecting the worst being that it was the first show there and it was outdoors, but I felt like they did a pretty good job of orienting the stage so that you could see well from just about anywhere, and once MM started most of the crowd was in shade. Also, the sound was pretty great for an outdoor show. I was very pleasantly surprised with the venue itself. Wonder if there will be more outdoor shows there.

I agree with everything here, however, I have to admit that I was a little bitter they had the show outside when the theater was right there with no event going on. The sound was my favorite part though. Both bands sounded perfect.

Yeah, seemed a little strange to have the show outside being that a large indoor venues was just staring us in the face. That being said, I assume they were trying to maximize the amount of tickets they could sell by putting it outside. Brand New always surprises me with how big of a crowd they draw. I'm sure everyone could have fit inside the theater though... but I wound up having a great time outside so...

Don't get me wrong, I had a fantastic time. The heat was just too draining.

Yeah, I guess you were out there for at least a couple hours before I got there. We were late, but fortunately got towards the front just before Modest Mouse started. It was definitely hot, but luckily we were shaded most of the time, and after the first hour or so, the sun was down so...

you probably don't have to get there all that early. Also see if your venue offers the $10 early entry via livenation. Because if so, if enough people are taking advantage of it it might not even matter how early you got there, ya know

It was at both shows I went to. They seem pretty well stocked on this tour.

You're welcome! It's kind of secretive so it's not obvious and idk if every venue has it or what. But I did it and bought it as an upgrade through live nation- even then, actually getting to the right page was like jumping through hoops.
Anyway like I said it depends on if it's available for your venue or if people even know about it.
I got to my venue about 2 hours early and was ~20th in line, but when they opened gates we learned the line didn't even matter because people just ran to the security lines/entrance. Plus we didn't realize they were letting people in from 2 entrances so the line hardly mattered.
But with the early entry, I was able to bypass the line. I was actually the last person to enter the pit via early entry and I was still on the railing near the center.
Idk if any of that info helps you lol but I hope it does

By the way, I don't know if anyone can confirm this for the Austin show, but there was a cameraman there. I'm sure the obvious reason is so that the audience can see the concert on the screens in the amphitheater, but I really hope they recorded it and release it later. The quality of the feed was really really good.

Me and my friend kept looking at the theater wishing we were in the air conditioning inside, funny you mentioned that.

My date is today and I'm so excited!! I'm hoping for a little change up, I'll go crazy if I get Brothers, 1996, Quiet things, or really anything unexpected!

How long does Modest Mouse get? I'm still sitting here and it's been 2 hours since the show was supposed to officially start. Eagerly waiting for Brand New...

    lol impatient much?
I thought I was going to be late so I was glad it didn't start perfectly on time.

I also haven't looked at set lists at all cause I'm going tomorrow too and I'd rather be "surprised" for one night at least.

I am super impatient lol. The one problem with coheadliners without any openers is that if you only like one of the bands, you may have to wait through the other lol. I prefer going to bed early and waking up early for work so it's the struggle for me, I'm very much the minority though lol.
