Or, the conversation was taken differently by both parties involved in it

This is why people let microaggressions just go ignored. Because if you try and challenge them people turn around and call you a liar and start questioning your friendship. Its not worth the fight

What??? She can certainly still be friends with Sanders even if she thinks he insinuated a woman couldn't win the election. I know a lot of people who think like that.

Because he tried to convince her to run for president three years earlier?

Truly wild the number of people in here that think there’s a chance Bernie sat down in a room with Elizabeth Warren, the same person he tried to draft to beat Hillary in 2015 before he had even decided to run himself, and told her a woman can’t be president. Truly wild.

  5. And then something happened in 2018 that made all of us go "holy shit." You think that and having a conversation about 2020 and if a woman can win against Trump and what they would face would go the exact same post-Trump as it would pre-Trump?

But, again, *that isn’t what Warren is saying he said.*

  7. "If a woman can win" is literally exactly what she said she disagreed with, I think the inference of a Trump world is obvious. The idea of "now" versus "hypothetical in general" seems to be at the very core of what most people are talking about.

they're arguing the most generous interpretation of her statement, we're arguing how warren's statement is being taken. we're just talking past each other if we can't agree on that then it's pointless. text and phone bank this weekend and let's make sure bernie wins iowa

I don't wanna shill the tweets too hard here, but do people seriously think that Warren is cozying up to Biden?

Is she really trying to torpedo Bernie for a Biden/Warren ticket? (I have no love for Biden but that's a winning ticket if I've ever seen one).

  13. I really can't see Warren running with Biden. They just seem to be on two totally different wave lengths.

Unfortunately, I can't see Bernie and Warren running together now either :(

She hates Biden, so no, no serious observer thinks that. She’s torpedoing Bernie because of perceived overlap in their support base.

The venn diagram of Bernie and Warren's potential base in the general is more or less a circle, so I don't think Warren/Sanders is a "good ticket", just a very obvious one.

Yeah but saying dumb shit about Bernie is not the way hahaha

More like, we're arguing not to tone police how a woman interprets a conversation around gender and the presidency

All of us fully agree that Sanders did not intend to imply a woman can't win the presidency. But intent is only half the story. Warren could've easily taken what he said in a different manner, and to suggest she is a "liar" for doing so feels kinda gross to me.

Lets put yourself into Warren's shoes. In 2015 you talk with Bernie, Bernie suggests you run for president because he thinks you'd do a good job. You decide not to do so, Bernie runs instead. Then for the 2020 race you decide to run for president. Bernie says he wants to run too. What changed in the last four years where he went from "You should run but if you won't I will" to "I'm gonna run against you"? Is it something you did? Did Bernie's views on who can win change?

Bernie's absolutely still in his right to run again. But it doesn't just seem plausible that a conversation between Bernie and Warren back when Bernie decided to run was taken differently by Warren that Bernie intended, it honestly seems rather likely.

again, this would be the only time in bernie's history where he would say that a woman can't be president, in a conversation with just the two of them about competing for a similar supporter base and now leaked when she's lost momentum in the polls and isn't as competitive as she was a few months ago. it doesn't pass the smell test, I'm sorry.

he built an incredible apparatus and the sort of recognition that will all but easily keep him at frontrunner status until the convention.

I guess you can call it sunk cost if you want.
