Listened to IAAN the first time since release. Don't get the hate. It's a fun little number.

I don't think so but hey, that's so something somebody in denial would say, no? :')
It's an opinion bud. I used to listen to GC before I even knew BN. I can't see it.

I think a lot of the people hating on it have since cooler their stance. It's a grower for sure. Though it definitely is far from their best work.

YFW is quite comparable to what GC was doing around then - both pop punk with cheesy lyrics. Whether YFW was cheesier or not can be debated, but I'd find it hard to argue that they're not in the same league

What, in that they're the same genre? Yeah there's no denying that, obviously. But I certainly can't say when I listen to 70x7 I immediately think of Girls Don't Like Boys. GC lean a hell of a lot more towards Blink and their comedic themes at that time if anything. I don't know enough about GC's discography to compare them I suppose, but going off of their hits I just can't see it.

Personally, I can't say I hear much of a gap between the two.

There's a huge gap IMO. YFW def has some cheese-tastic moments but even the worst ones (like all of Last Chance to Lose your Keys) don't reach the levels of those Young and the Hopeless singles.

I guess the main difference is that YFW sounds like a starting out point, whereas GC sounds like the sound they arrived on.

that's true, but it's neither here nor there in what i was saying. i wasn't comparing the two bands' careers, just YFW specifically

To be fair, YFW isn't really worth listening to more than once. Even by pop punk standards, it's not very good.

Disagree. I haven't had a pop punk release stick with me in years. Most of these defend pop punk era bands wish they could write a hook as catchy as failure by design or sudden death

How would you guys feel about a reworked Good Man being the final song on the new album (or included at all)?

    Agreed. Leave it as is.

Just give me an album full of songs I've not heard. Ever. Bar Sealed and IAAN. Love that they're reworking old demos but I hope they don't put one on the new album unless it's a bonus.

So I'm going to the show on Tuesday. What time has the first band been going on?

The showtime listed on the ticket. Based on what Ticketmaster says, that looks to be 7. Bar a few instances, the opening band has been particularly prompt (for a change).

Never saw one, I just bought the tickets on stubhub  a ton of people I talked to were surprised as well. Ah well. Bummer. Not like it would have changed anything for me, couldn't have gotten there any earlier with the sudden circumstances we were under.

I actually think the people who were upset had the right to be. This was the ultimate troll move by Brand New. I was only able to go to the west coast TDAG/Daisy show because I specifically purchased tickets for the second day first, to make sure those were the albums I got to see, and by the time I checked out, the YFW/Deja show had sold out. If I had lived on the east coast and strategically purchased tickets to the second show to see the two albums I preferred, I would have been a bit bummed that they switched it up. Not pissed, mind you, because I like the first two albums. But I definitely would have gone in expecting TDAG and Daisy. With Brand New, you have to imagine there are a lot of people who like one half of the catalog over the other, so I totally understand why people were pissed.

No. If you can't appreciate at least some part of each Brand New release, don't go to the full album shows. Catch them a different time.

If you can't appreciate Aliens, you shouldn't buy tickets to see Alien.
