I'm so glad I'm seeing other people in here say it was stressful. I had so much anxiety watching it, which isn't typical for a movie for me, I like to relax and be entertained. But man, at one time, I was concerned because I could feel an overwhelming amount of tension building up.

The relentless tension and sensory excitement was incredibly well done, like Robert Altman turned to 11. The overlapping dialogue, the music and the YELLING YELLING YELLING, it was like a punch in the face that kept sinking deeper.

I feel conflicted as to the effectiveness of the choices though. My body was so bombarded I didn’t really walk away with any substantive thoughts. I haven’t felt that way with other abrasive movies like those of Gaspar Noè, Harmony Korine, some Jean Luc Godard.

With Uncut Gems, I felt reminded of the noisy claustrophobia and suffocating man energy we endure every day, but like...I don’t need a movie to know the sky is blue.

I felt other themes too about consumerism, possession, hedonism etc. But there are other movies that communicate those themes more effectively and without the bodily harm. This felt like a movie where style came first and any thematic fruit that fell from that was a fortuitous corollary.

I wonder if the fact that Julia and Idina kinda look alike is intentional, like Howard would totally be the kind of guy whose mistress would just be his wife but 15-20 years younger

Good Time is darker than this. I think it’s better. Not because of that, though.

  17. This has already posted $17m at the box office

I prefer this over Good Time mainly bc of Sandler. Both are great though and fairly even.

i think i like this more but that might partially be because it had the unfair advantage of me seeing it at a packed premiere w/ intro from some of the main people involved, whereas i first watched good time at home

So Sandler’s lowest box office weekend of a wide release film?
