I know Mourinho said Bailly isn't ready to start, but he will. It'll be him and Jones against Bournemouth, because Smalling is suspended. Jones is shit, so it will be Bailly and Smalling the next week against Southampton and they'll be first choice for the rest of the year.

Bailly has looked decent alright. The utter chasm of midfield is still a problem. Herrera hasn't looked good for a long time. I'm kinda scared of our whole spine. What's the say Bailly won't hit some bad form, then we're stuck with Jones/Rojo as backups and that's a nightmare backline. Carrick is 34, Schweiny I have faith in but he's injured non stop. Schneiderlin has been shite.

I would like one more midfielder and another centre back.

Herrera just can't play as part of the 2 in a 4-2-3-1. He's not a flashy 10, but he's not an 8 or a 6 either. (Disclaimer: I really like him as a person and a player, but I just don't think he has a place in our starting line up). But I agree with everything you've said here. I think out defence was flattered last year by both De Gea and playing such a possession strangling (read: boring) system that they were rarely placed under intense pressure. Podgba would be nice, but he won't help with the defensive spine of the squad, and that's what'll let us down.

 

Pogba next to Schneiderlin will be fine.
