I got i,i on red vinyl. Merry Christmas everyone.

 

I got Queen's Greatest Hits. Sounds great. First time hearing Queen on vinyl.

Bought a new turntable, Fluance RT-85, and phono preamp, Musical Fidelity LX-LPS.

 

So upon finally opening up the U-Turn i realized it doesn't have the built-in pre-amp that I had asked for. Anyone have any cheap pre-amp recommendations? Appears that Musical Fidelity one is way out of my price range at $500.

Otherwise hopefully U-Turn can do a return and charge the difference because i'm getting like no volume into my studio monitors.

No it was a gift, and I had asked for the preamp in my original request. Family forgot to select that option.

 

Ah! I see. They sell the same pre-amp (external) here for around $90: Pluto Phono Preamp

The built-in version is about $20 less. But hey, this would let you upgrade down the line if you want.

 

The one I use is just the Pro-Ject classic Phono Box, ran me $100. Idk what the differences are between any of them but it was easy to set up, I’ve never had a problem with it, and my records sound great

 

How much that Fiona cost you?

Yea it says it sold out now on VMP but there was no limit on the pressing quantity. I would bet it will show up again, they probably just sold out of what they had.

After literally 7 plays my Orbit belt has lost tension and doesn't fit the platter anymore. Extremely disappointed in this.

 

So sorry to hear this! I'd contact support - they should be able to help you out! (I bought a couple spare belts and cartridges to have just in case because I'm a klutz. But I've yet to get the belt to lose tension, so I bet it was a defective belt.) Did you switch speeds a lot? Also, the belt should always be left in the 33 speed because the 45 stretches it out.

Yeah i've already emailed. Honestly I think it was a defective belt - it seemed loose from the start and it was never as easy to get it flush with the platter as the demonstration videos and pictures on their website. Eh I probably played half and half speed-wise.

And yeah literally just had the pre-amp come in today and was getting ready to use it when this happened

 

Yeah, I bet it was defective. As long as you're careful when installing and switching and you leave it at 33 when not in use, it should last a while. I'll say that you do get the hang of switching the belt speed after several times. That was such a relief when it finally worked easily for me.
