The New York scene is in fire at the moment. YOD, wiki, Mike, all of Griselda, Roc Marci have all put out superb projects this year.

True, but she’s more of a pop star/celebrity these days. And not that interesting haha

 

she's still a rapper. you could easily say the exact same thing about drake but no one would claim he's not an integral part of the toronto rap scene. so frustrating how women always get pushed out of hip hop and into the pop world. i'm having flashbacks to the 2010 Nicki conversations.

 

Drake is a pop star too But then again, he and Cardi make the kind of poppy rap I have zero interest in.

It’s weird because pop has become so influenced by hip hop. Lizzo arguably had the biggest year for a rapper with her massive breakout success that is heavily pop.

 

"Highest in the Room" remix is definitely something. Never expected Rosalia doing trap but her verse is fun lol. Her imitating Travis Scott adlibs on the other hand... well, I dunno. Lil Baby's verse is good too, maybe my favorite he's done this year.

Rest of the EP is whatever. Thug is reliably good and it also reminded me that I need to dive deeper into Pop Smoke.

 

Don Toliver carries it. He’s awesome.
