Natalie Wynn, a.k.a. Contrapoints, is an awesome leftist trans YouTuber who was "canceled" for having Buck Angel read a small John Waters quote in one of her video essays. She doesn't get into her own experiences right away, but basically, she took that & turned into into a way to discuss some differences between "cancel culture" & good faith criticism.

I'm a big fan of that topic not being ignored & monopolized by rightwing reactionaries, & also a big fan of her, so yeah. If you're not opposed to YouTube video essays as a medium, are interested in wrestling w/ how we handle accountability in good faith (especially online), & have time to watch it in installments, it's certainly worth a watch.

 

While yes she gets into her personal experiences after like 30 min I would argue that the first 30 min are super important as a separate piece as just like an explanation for how these things evolve because I think she did a really good job of explaining it and giving me perspective on things I’ve thought a lot about

Here's a New Yorker piece on Pinegrove's comeback through the lens of the sexual coersion accusation against Hall.

 

Interesting read, and I’m very glad they aren’t letting people forget. I loved Pinegrove, but after the allegations I stopped listening immediately. It seems strange people have moved on, and are fine listening again. Like the article says there are so many great artists without accused abusers. Same reason I don’t listen to TOOL anymore. There are other great metal bands that don’t have a rapist in them.

 

I only know of Pinegrove because I think Nandi from Half Waif was in it?

 

I believe she was yes, and apparently she’s married to the drummer which I didn't know.
