They go to a mansion where Palpatine is secretly selling Snoke clones on the black market. Turns out Rey was really just a clone of Palpatine’s daughter and not his granddaughter. Kylo frees the Snoke clones and they are free to roam America now

You know, this is kind of funny... I liked it enough I guess, but the constant zigzagging, fakeouts, deliberate misinformation for the sake of a shocking twist, convoluted plot points that require way too much exposition to explain because they weren’t properly set up, etc. are all things I found myself thinking about when I saw this movie today. I had the realization “Wow, this movie felt like I was watching an episode of Westworld” which also frustrates the hell out of me.

It COMPLETELY slipped my mind that J.J. also works on Westworld as well. Not sure if these comparisons were just a coincidence, but I thought it was funny.

Overall it was a fun movie. I think there was some questionable stuff, especially some of the major fan service thrown in but I’m not sure how else they would’ve done this. The Last Jedi will definitely end up being the stand out for me out of this trilogy. Just think Rian is the superior filmmaker and really took chances. JJ was just playing it way too safe.

But they broke $2b w/ Avengers, & broke $1b w/ Lion King, Captain Marvel, Toy Story, Aladdin, & Frozen. Only 2 other films broke $1b this year, & one of ‘em is a property that Disney has its fingers partially in (Spider-Man).

    I hate capitalism, y’all.

Yeah I may put this above Attack of the Clones, but I enjoy Episode 1 and 3 more than 9. Give me Jar Jar over zombie Palps any day of the week

I really, *REALLY* wanted to like this. I was still hopeful going in that there would be good enough execution for me to at least tolerate most of the questionable narrative choices, etc... and my love for the first two movies in this trilogy made me really pull for this to stick the landing.

There were things I enjoyed, some more than others... but god, this was a absolute mess. There were some parts that were so god-awful in their execution that I can’t believe they made it to final cut... I genuinely wasn’t prepared for how baffling some of this would be as it played out on-screen, even having read the leaks and mostly knowing the main plot beats.

All I keep thinking of is wasted potential... not just of the first two movies in the trilogy (although mostly that), but even some of the individual elements of the story that WERE cool in theory but didn’t feel earned enough in the context of the movie. Even Ben’s turn, which I was so excited to see play out, felt SO unearned and rushed. We see way less conflict in him than in TLJ or even TFA, and then literally in a 5-10 minute span of screen time he goes from determined to turn Rey to the Dark Side to... turned himself? Ugh... there’s so much more that let me down here, but most of it was already covered by you guys. I did enjoy this movie on a very surface level, but the conclusion to this trilogy deserved so much more than that.

Scrolled through a bunch to see if this was mentioned or not, but anyone else get “on your left” and “I am iron man” vibes when lando and everyone showed up and reys “and I... am all the Jedi”. Haha. It’s like Disney went, people really loved Endgame, let’s do that again. Though I did really like all the voices she heard to get back up.

There was some really cool stuff in this. some things I liked, visually was great, John Williams crushing it as always. But this movie... so surface level, nonsensical, and weird haha.

  14. Things that are now canon: Palpatine fucks.

Kylo died getting only a kiss.

(until a future movie gives us his random kid fighting baby yoda’s kid or something from J.J. Jr.)

So why exactly did Luke die in The Last Jedi? Did he use up all his power sending the hologram of himself to meet Kylo in the desert, that that is what forced him to die?

Presumably yes, since he hadn’t tapped into the force in ... years? I think before hand and earlier Kylo says that type of force power could kill someone who isn’t very in tune with the force

  17. Pretty much that. A sacrifice and pure power drain.

This felt SO fan fiction-esque. Those of you who have said that were more spot-on than I could’ve possibly thought.

Honest question, if TLJ was more well received by fans, would this have been better?

That just further leads into my theory that Leia was inside Kylo

Oh, I always assumed he realized he was more powerful becoming a part of the force and did it to himself like Obi Wan in ANH... I think I like that scene a lot less if he OD’ed on too much force power and died on accident.

They’re already co-writing a Spider-Man miniseries... where it was surprise revealed in the first issue that the series is actually about Peter’s son, Ben, in a timeline where he quit after MJ died. In a storyline entitled, no joke, “Bloodline.”

Oh yeah, & I’m not buying it, but I’m pretty sure the identity of the villain is still a mystery.
