Sorry, totally off topic, but figured I'd post in here since a lot of healthcare talk goes on in here..

A family member recently broke a tooth and finally went to an urgent care dentist today, and after spending $158 just to be seen, they determine she'd either need a root canal ($3k) or have it pulled ($380)

She doesn't have insurance and truly cannot afford this. We tried setting her up for something called CareCredit that'd allow her to pay $250 a month for a year to pay it off interest-free, but even that is still unaffordable, and she needs a cosigner. She already has a few teeth that were pulled in the past and really doesn't want to have to lose another. Anyone have any advice or tips?

 

I don't know where exactly she found it, but my mom found some discount dental supplemental insurance thing last year that basically allowed her to pay like $300 and it covered like most of the work she needed done that her insurance wasn't already covering. She had to have multiple teeth pulled and her gums scaled because she had gum disease from smoking.

 

Try a dental school. Obviously there's the caveat that it's students performing the procedures, but they offer very inexpensive treatment
