I'm not even defending Matt, I'm just trying to make sure we acknoaledge nuance.

 

The dude is talking to people in his bands fan club (to me that means they're going above and BEYOND to support his band) , and his response to their concern is essentially "fuck off with your concerns fans that are literally putting money into my pocket as we speak"

Pretty off-putting even IF there wasnt anything else negative in the article lol

Not even just close, he’s made various posts defending her and has even blocked people when they point out the harm she’s done. But it gets ignored

 

I mean, yeah, for sure. If I was a fan paying for that fan club, I'd be offended if he was saying that about me. BUT I also see it from an artist's point of view. That quote made it seem like the interviewer was saying "Your fan club said they didn't like the album. What are your feelings on that?" If my fans were telling me they hated my album, I would want to say "we are going to make the art WE want to make, and if you like it-thank you so much, and if you don't-that's on you" more or less. So yeah, out of the actual context of this specific interview, I don't think it's super assholey and I would probably agree with him (if he had said it in a nicer and more understanding way), but I also understand the side of being offended by it too. It's one thing to dislike something, but it's another thing to tell the artist you don't like something. Anyway, I'm rambling on and on about an out of context quote, so I will stop talking now, haha.

 

Also I think saying "I'm going to do what I want with my art and be true to myself" is a very different type of 'fuck you' than "I'm going to give a racist sensationalist a platform, and fuck you if you try to hold me accountable"

It's the most hilarious thing when people think they are genuinely smart for talking circles around the point just for the sake of it. You are not of broader mind, you are an asshole at worst and an annoyance at best.

 

I feel like people are using an equivalence of the “I know a black person so I can’t be racist” defense for Matt and that’s pretty fucking lame.

I think it brings forth a valid point that it’s good to have diversity with the people in your life to learn and try to understand other people’s point of view, even if you disagree with it.

Instead of attacking people you disagree with, trying having a conversation with them. It’s harder to change someone’s point of view yelling at them, teasing them, bossing them around or bulking them.

I know a lot of people disagree with me or don’t like me, but I don’t post here for “likes”. I’d rather hear stories of how the members of Blink are friends with the Ellen’s of the world, but sometimes, even the Ellen’s of the world become friends with the George W.’s and invite them on their show to work together. You kinda hope that some of that goodness brings about some positivity somewhere, even if odds are against it.
