    Was that Caleb Chapman's group?

Yeah! They were a lot of fun live. I'm pretty sure I've got a copy of the Caleb EP somewhere.

I saw Colony House live last year, that's how I got into them. The one Caleb album is on iTunes and such, definitely wanting to hear the 2 earlier EPs. That would be awesome if you found it!

Apologies in advance for this. I feel like sharing/need help.

I'm 32. I listened to a good amount of Christian music from the point in middle school when I got MxPx's Teenage Politics on cassette at a Lifeway bookstore until summer 2005 when, after years of doubt and many crisis of faith, I backed out of plans to go into a discipleship ministry for young people a month and a half before I was to move. My girlfriend, who I met through the opportunity, several other people I met leading up to that fall and a friend from home went and, at the end of their first (and last) year in the program, they returned disillusioned with the experience, referring to it as a cult, and effectively walked away from church and religion completely. There were a couple hanger-on's but they all eventually dropped off or at least drifted for a time. While they were taking trips to Haiti and Israel and leading events at church and trying to being a witness to the people of the area while they felt broken themselves, I was telling myself I was just taking a break from God. But stories of their experience when we reconnected assured me I was better off without religion.

Very recently, after separating my issues with church and the doctrine I was being fed from what I believe the bible actually teaches (and looking at the history of how politics and prejudices and perhaps a poor translation of dead languages has sullied the bible's message of love), I'm slowly coming back. Enjoying the art of other believers was one of the ways I felt most connected to my faith-- no matter the subject of a song, bonding over the music with others always felt special. So I looked into what's new. I listened to some musicians mentioned in this thread (went thru just half the thread, admittedly) and none of it is really to my taste. Maybe I'm old. Maybe there just isn't what I'm looking for right now. but I'm still looking if anyone can assist me. If not, I'm staying on this diet of mostly mewithoutYou and Pedro the Lion and that's okay.

As a guide you can hopefully understand for the people who frequent this website, I dig most of the Run for Cover Records lineup-- so basically I dig the same 90's alternative/indie rock/emo vibe I've been on since I first got into music. I like hardcore, but Christian hardcore being mostly metalcore for some reason didn't appeal to me much overall-- though I am into the first Norma Jean album, some Underoath, Beloved, Zao and a few others. I have no shame listening to Slick Shoes or Five Iron Frenzy so if you got some pop-punk or ska recommendations, throw them my way. There's a theme of most of what I've mentioned coming from Tooth & Nail Records, but they've let me down in my absence so I'm crowd sourcing.

    Sorry for this disruption.

@milogoestoprison sounds familiar to my own journey. I am interested to see what recommendations are given.

I would highly recommend you check out Listener. VERY similar to mewithoutYou, more spoken word, but the lyrics are absolutely beautiful.

Listener is fantastic and would definitely fit the bill. Give Wooden Heart a listen and go from there. We spoke a little about the album in this thread but needtobreathe has been on fire with their last two albums, definitely check those out as well. Oh, Jon Foreman's solo albums are all great too!

Food for thought though, and maybe I'll get push back from this, but if you're searching for God in music, you're only going to find man's fractured attempts to artistically go through their faith. As mewithoutYou beautifully put it, "Lord I could never show you anything as beautiful as You." I would encourage you, if you're not, and maybe you are, to dive into God's word. You said you have a history with the church and even wanted to at one point go into a discipleship mininstry, as it's put in Revelation 2, return to your first love!

Does anyone listen to the Happy Rant podcast? Ronnie Martin (Joy Electric), Ted Kluck, and Barnabas Piper talk about variety of topics. Really interesting overall. Really a huge fan of Ronnie Martin.

    Seriously...this song is just unbelievable.

WOODEN HEART (sea of mist called skaidan)

We’re all born to broken people on their most honest day of living and since that first breath… We’ll need grace that we’ve never given I’ve been haunted by standard red devils and white ghosts and it’s not only when these eyes are closed these lies are ropes that I tie down in my stomach, but they hold this ship together tossed like leaves in this weather and my dreams are sails that I point towards my true north, stretched thin over my rib bones, and pray that it gets better but it won’t won’t, at least I don’t believe it will… so I’ve built a wooden heart inside this iron ship, to sail these blood red seas and find your coasts. don’t let these waves wash away your hopes this war-ship is sinking, and I still believe in anchors pulling fist fulls of rotten wood from my heart, I still believe in saviors but I know that we are all made out of shipwrecks, every single board washed and bound like crooked teeth on these rocky shores so come on and let’s wash each other with tears of joy and tears of grief and fold our lives like crashing waves and run up on this beach come on and sew us together, tattered rags stained forever we only have what we remember

I am the barely living son of a woman and man who barely made it but we’re making it taped together on borrowed crutches and new starts we all have the same holes in our hearts… everything falls apart at the exact same time that it all comes together perfectly for the next step but my fear is this prison… that I keep locked below the main deck I keep a key under my pillow, it’s quiet and it’s hidden and my hopes are weapons that I’m still learning how to use right but they’re heavy and I’m awkward…always running out of fight so I’ve carved a wooden heart, put it in this sinking ship hoping it would help me float for just a few more weeks because I am made out of shipwrecks, every twisted beam lost and found like you and me scattered out on the sea so come on let’s wash each other with tears of joy and tears of grief and fold our lives like crashing waves and run up on this beach come on and sew us together, just some tattered rags stained forever we only have what we remember

My throat it still tastes like house fire and salt water I wear this tide like loose skin, rock me to sea if we hold on tight we’ll hold each other together and not just be some fools rushing to die in our sleep all these machines will rust I promise, but we’ll still be electric shocking each other back to life Your hand in mine, my fingers in your veins connected our bones grown together inside our hands entwined, your fingers in my veins braided our spines grown stronger in time because are church is made out of shipwrecks from every hull these rocks have claimed but we pick ourselves up, and try and grow better through the change so come on yall and let’s wash each other with tears of joy and tears of grief and fold our lives like crashing waves and run up on this beach come on and sew us together, were just tattered rags stained forever we only have what we remember

This is great - no disruption. And although just a fleeting mention, it's great to see someone talk about Beloved. They were such an excellent band and the first I saw live here in the UK supporting Dead Poetic.

I would really back the Listener recommendations. I prefer the most recent album Time Is A Machine.

Beloved and Dead Poetic were both great. I wish they stuck around a while longer, though I don't think I gave much time to the last Dead Poetic album.

I've given Listener a spin since a few of you recommended it, but I can't get over the guy's voice. If it weren't for that this would be up my alley. I appreciate you all trying to please this old man though.

Oh man, that's so sad to me, I LOVE Dan Smith's voice. I get it though, it's certainly... Unique lol. Check out Deep Space 5, it was a hip-hop collective he was a part of. Maybe you'll enjoy his voice in that realm more.

It is a very easy listen. One of those where I just have it on in the background and then realize I made it through 10 songs!

The EP felt too short for me so I would love a full length (particularly because I'm in the UK so the chances of them touring here are next to nothing...!)

New Showbread is pretty great, though I find myself disagreeing with a bit of the theology. One of their best, I think.
