So when do you think the learning part starts then? The mistake has been made, its highly unlikely they're unaware of it, so whats next?

By the way, Not Another Christmas Song is great. Travis has done a top notch job.

  5. Maybe this is the learning part? They can't stop the song from coming out now so maybe in the future they'll be like "We got a lot of shit for that XXX song, so let's maybe NOT work with *insert problematic person here*" or whatever. Fingers crossed...

And obviously realizing you're getting shit for something is only half of the learning experience. Like, you see how the decision has affected you, so now consider WHY people have reacted this way, and then acknowledge that you actually made the mistake, and don't do it again.

They are men in their 40s who decided to work with a person who brutally abused a pregnant woman. It wasn't a poor choice of words or split-second decision. It was one that they all agreed to do and didn't have to do for any reason other than they wanted to.

What negative repercussions will they face so that they will learn? They will only make money off of this.

Exactly. Releasing a song like this does not happen overnight. It likely involved the band plus dozens of others, numerous confirmations, contracts being signed. A lot of thought went into this decision. All of that thought and they decided that the best course of action would be to endorse and share a platform with him. That's a very conscious decision.

  9. A lot of fans have been turning their backs on them, calling them out for the poor decision, etc. At the end of the day, are enough fans going to turn on the band that it makes an actual impact on them? Honestly, probably not, but since they can't undo this now, hopefully they will at least think twice before jumping into relationships (creative or otherwise) with shitty people.

I wasn’t amazed by the trailer maybe I’ll give movie a shot 1-10 how good?

  12. Hmmm. Recency bias has it at a 9. Do maybe a point discount for that to make it an 8. It's a TON of fun.

  13. it's a solid 7. it's entertaining.

I don’t see that at all. What I saw was a brief conversation here and then it quickly pivoted to how catchy their Christmas song is.

that doesn’t look like accountability. If anything it looks like “ah well, won’t do that again” but that’s hardly a repercussion.

Right, hopefully they will, but to think that they will see/give a shit about the group of fans that is mad at them for this is a bit naive. I’d like to see it happen but that is highly unlikely. I had personal conversations with members of bands who have done shit like this, as have other members of this site, and they are still posting pics/promoting abusers.

The best case scenario, imo, would be someone of stature or similar positioning in terms of fame directly calling them out on social media and that catching on to the point where they, or Mark, would address it. That won’t happen, though, because XXX has been untouchable since he passed.

  17. I also agree that it's highly unlikely that this will have enough of an impact on them that they'll think twice before doing something like this again, but I hope they learn from it... As far as I know, this is the most uproar the band's ever had so maybe this is enough to make some change. Maybe that's naive, but we'll see, I guess.

I think they’d probably be more concerned with fans calling them sellouts for working with Chainsmokers than with X and his bad past.

  19. I never even heard of the guy until all this Blink collab news popped up. It's weird being out of the loop.

He is a god amongst teenagers. He’s as important to some as Tupac (as Pac was to the earlier generations, I should say. They don’t give a fuck about Pac now). They view him as a poet and a role model. I need to, unfortunately, walk on eggshells when I talk about him to my students

Let’s take a look at the dozens of bands, artists and writers they’ve collectively worked with. Is it a long list of people have a negative impact on society?

For example, Alex from All Time Low, Dan and Derek from the Trio, Chainsmokers, John Feldman, Robert Smith, Fat Mike, Goody Grace, Motion City Soundtrack, Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy, Yelawolf on and on and on and on.

There are some I know, and some I had never heard of before, so I don’t entirely know. Maybe in the future, they will do a little more research on people before they work with them. Even with research, their decision may not be one people agree with, which is what I think has kind of happened.

Trio/matt skiba have been my favorite artist next to MCR for well over a decade. I have literally spent my life savings on nothing but traveling to see them, and in recent years that spilled over onto blink, to the poin that blink took over my top played artist on spotify, according to my stats they are my top played artist since 2015. I ran fansites, I came out of pockets for myself and others to attend shows and buy their merch.

I have not only sold off all of my blink stuff and deleted them from my music library, I have also had to do the same with matt's solo stuff. I had to load off my most prized possessions, I can't bring myself to listen to music that has meant the most to me for over a decade now, and I can hardly bring myself to listen to Trio.

Like I said, there are those of us who do not have the luxury of just brushing this off and moving on as these associations just aren't "mistakes" when trauma is something you deal with on a daily basis and something you loved so much is tainted by it, it is impossible to enjoy anymore.

Stop downplaying the fact that this is a pointed decision made by each and every single one of the people in this band that says they don't give a shit about how their actions affect marginalized people as long as they can profit off of it and downplay it just because some people are lucky enough to be able to brush the decision off and enjoy them with "a bit of disappointment" moving forward.

The Christmas song is just so catchy. Blink will be featured on the #1 album in the country next week...be it XXX or Chainsmokers.
