  1. I wanted to say in a follow-up post, so: I love many of the bands on TE and want to support them but after what's transpired, and the complete lack of spine on the label's behalf thereafter, I can't give the label another cent. It's either direct support or TE sorts themselves the fuck out. The latter of which has a snowball's chance in hell of happening at this point but I'm settled with my conscience that they won't see any more of my money until the situation is resolved.

The best solution would probably be to buy everything from the bands directly. There's a good chance that every band on the label have their own merch stores. Who knows if the bands would ever see the money if you bought anything from Tiny Engines but if you go through the bands directly, they'll more than likely see that money.

yeah I was gonna say you don't likely have to purchase direct through TE's webstore to support the band themselves

  5. Yeah that's what I'm doing. TE is likely finished and their roster's gonna need new homes. It's frustrating how much I love their collective roster and am so fucking angry at them as people.

Am I the only one who doesn’t really see that as making her look stupid so much as something playful? Kinda reminds me of when I playfully joke with my mom about not knowing anything current. Maybe I’m wrong, as I haven’t seen the full context, but that doesn’t seem like an intent to humiliate to me, just playful joking.

The whole segment just comes off as ‘lets poke fun at how young you are’ kimmel and fallon do shit like this all the time and its always so eyerolly. Do you really have nothing else to discuss with one of the biggest popstars on the planet right now?

    Full interview here.

I'm kind of in agreement with @tyramail here. It's your standard, stupid late night talk show shtick. The interview picks up a bit there and actually turns into something decent. I don't think they were trying to make Billie look stupid...I think they wanted to show how much of a wunderkind she is compared to how old Kimmel is. At least that's what I think they intended. Whether or not you interpret it that way is up to you.

I think it's just the fact that being quizzed on whether she knows certain artists on a public platform seems...weird. Who cares what artists they know? Why are older artists never quizzed on whether they know modern day artists? Kimmel knows he's going to mention a band/musician she doesn't know and have an opportunity to get a laugh/subtly mock her (even if it's not apparent). It's all part of his plan and it's not fair to a seventeen year old who a) was not alive when said band was active and b) is not living in a time where said band is remotely relevant whatsoever. I can't even say with certainty whether I knew who Van Halen were at age 17.

Agreed whether or not the intent was to mock her its a wholly unnecessary bit

I guess that’s where I think it’s just playful. I don’t think there’s an actual expectation that she knows the artists, hence why it’s just being jokingly played out. I mean, there are certainly better things or topics that could have taken place instead though. I understand your point, I just personally don’t see it as malicious or a harmful intent I guess. And I don’t follow many interviews or talk shows, but I’ve experienced the reverse “quizzing” of older people and current artists in real life, so I don’t see it as super one-sided, personally.

If there is no expectation that she knows the artists then why even bring them up? Why not, as you and Sean said, talk about literally anything more important to one of the biggest pop stars on the planet then artists from before her time?

I agree here, but it’s also a talk show and I feel like half the time they’re A) non-serious and B) incredibly superficial as far as their interview content goes. I just don’t have the expectation of a high quality interview from these types of shows, especially with a comedic host. Not that I don’t agree with the better use of time, I just don’t have that standard here.

Re: Buying from TE, I saw Sarah (Illuminati Hotties) respond to someone about it earlier, if you’re thinking about buying something from the artist maybe just DM them for now or like others have said buy it directly at a show.

It sounds really bizarre but I feel like people are better at separating art from the artist when they don’t necessarily care about the artist.
honestly if I would have heard it in public I would have jammed too, before I saw the show. Now it would just make me sad but there are tons of people who don’t know the true extent of it sadly

But also yep that’s what I mean that he’ll always have a fan base and be making money as long as streaming exists etc

Quick follow-up to the things you and others have been saying (not a response to you but more of a piggy-back off of your thoughts based in industry knowledge):

All of these questions and the point of the whole segment was most likely reviewed and OK'd by Billie's PR, marketing, and management people before she went on to the show. Someone of her public stature was possibly given the final "yes/no" on all the individual pieces of the segment that went to air.

No matter how it comes off, it's 98% likely that Billie's "people" OK'd it.

For the record - Billie Joe Armstrong's interview w/ Billie Eilish for Rolling Stone is better, especially on the topic of her youth. He comes across as genuinely respecting her as an artist and person, which really stood out to me when I read/watched it.
