the one where other players help you in the battle against the credits and then you sacrifice ur save data to save another player and the game music swells to this giant crescendo and then the game thanks you for playing it

My favourite video game experience is playing and completing Halo 4 on a trip to visit a friend in Berlin. We’d get drunk each night and then play Xbox when we got home.

The Halo universe has one of the most impenetrable stories and worlds I’ve ever experienced. Idk what it is about the way those games present their fiction but it just isn’t interesting to me. Like I’m all for dense and convoluted storytelling if it’s done well, the Nier/Drakengard series is borderline impossible to follow but it does it in a way that makes it feel rewarding to understand, whereas Halo always feels like it’s just sci-fi words and more sci-fi words like the Conductor, The Librarian, Composer, Forerunners, Prometheans, etc and i just never rly get anything from them.

not knocking anyone who loves the world or story, I still have fond memories of playing the multiplayer and even the campaigns but more as a fun sandbox to shoot things in and less as a sci-fi war epic

 

I love halo multiplayer

but Reach is the only halo with a good story

Yep, and even it relies on really well worn tropes (the big guy is a softie, the quiet one is a badass, the woman, heroic deaths, last stands, etc) but it does them well enough to make a real impact

Nothing is still more disappointing to me in a VG than Halo 2’s story. Like I was so hyped for that campaign, AND they changed New Mombasa aesthetics from the amazing E3 demo.
