Oh, I just figured it was a part of Will now or he had the ability to travel between since it almost "cocooned" him.

It's probably something like that, but it's still open for others as well.

It's most likely still in the research lab. Modine's character was attacked by the Demogorgon, but we didn't see him die. He could be in the Upside Down or he could still be alive in the DoE lab doing more experiments.

More questions than I expected after finishing but overall really good. Would have liked to see more of Will's time in the Upside Down but I guess that would have subtracted from the suspense.

  4. Just finished this. The kids were all great. The music was great. Pretty much loved everything about it. And damn, Winona Ryder :clap::clap:

Just finished episode 6 and surprised to learn there's only 8 episodes this season. Thought this was the standard 13 episode Netflix season. Now I feel sad there's only two episodes left.

Watched the first 3 episodes over the weekend. It's great. Will probably finish it this week if I have the time.

    A DILAPIDATED BOAT! Prestigious

I knew I recognized Finn Wolfhard, the child actor that plays Mike from something, and it was killing me, and I finally realized what it was.

A bit about X-Men 134. (Spoilers for the whole show)

At the beginning of the show Dustin and Will race back to Dustin's house for the choice of any comic they want from the other one's collection. Will chooses X-Men 134. It actually carries strong foreshadowing of El's story, the same way Will being gotten by the demogorgon in the D&D game is telegraphing Will's being taken by the monster.

X-Men 134 is in the middle of the Phoenix Saga, specifically the one where Dark Phoenix first appears. The Phoenix Saga is one of the most famous X-Men stories, where Jean Grey, a telepathic mutant, learns to fully unlock her powers and becomes the Phoenix, and then the Dark Phoenix.

In the book the Dark Phoenix is accidentally unleashed by the Mastermind who is tinkering around in Jean's brain trying to unlock the full potential of her powers. This is comparable to Brenner pushing Eleven to go poke the monster and then tearing a dimensional wall by accident, letting the monster into our universe. Furthermore, in the comic there is a scene where Jean/Phoenix uses her mental powers to pin Mastermind to the wall, and then unloads on him with the full force of her mind putting him into a coma. Sound familiar? That's how El defeats the monster in the school.

And maybe a stretch, but it's implied that El's real name is Jane which is an anagram for Jean. Anyway, I love how much thought is put into the references in the show.

Halfway through this and it's really great. I can't get over how much Steve looks like a high school douche version of Ben Schwartz lol

I read an article from the Ringer praising this, and the writer called this show and films and shows like it "VHS-core" which is a term i'd never heard of before, meaning it has heavy influence from films of the video store era, usually the early to mid 80's.

Why are people quick to dub stuff like Stranger Things and Super 8 "VHS-core" and not something like Mr. Robot which is a clear homage to films that were on Blockerbuster shelves in the mid to late 90's?

THAT'S who he looks like! Oh god that was bugging the hell out of me. Sometimes I thought maybe Andrew Garfield a little, but yeah that's it. Man.

Am I the only one (probably) who thinks Charlie Heaton looks a little bit like a young Michael Shannon?

I think because the first two took place in the past whereas Mr. Robot reflects modern technology. I get what you're saying though.

I can definitely see that. I saw a bunch of people on Twitter saying he looks like a young Stephen King which i don't really get at all.

Glad I'm not crazy then. There was one scene where he made a certain facial expression and it totally popped out at me.

This is the best thing Netlfix has done.
Just hopped over Bloodline for me.

Now I'm just upset that they aren't doing the The Dark Tower...because Netflix and The Duffer Bros did Stephen King better than anyone so far.

Literally told my wife the same thing earlier. Netflix has had an impressive string of original content, but imo, this is the best to date.

Is the term "mouth-breather" ever fully explained? I know there are a few references but I don't recall it being addressed in the series. That being said, I've adored all of the original content Netflix has done in the last year: The Characters, Love, Master of None, Bill Murray Xmas, Orange is the new black, Bojack Horseman (new season next week!), comedy standup specials, Pee Wee revival, Wet Hot American Summer etc. They really seem to know what they are doing over there.
