On 'the squad', from a Gawker article found here

"she is a ruthless, publicly capitalist pop star. To think of her as womanhood incarnate is to trick oneself into forgetting about “Bad Blood” and “Better Than Revenge.” Swift isn’t here to help women—she’s here to make bank. Seeing her on stage cavorting with World Cup winners and supermodels was not a win for feminism, but a win for Taylor Swift. Her plan—to be as famous and as rich as she can possibly be—is working, and by using other women as tools of her self-promotion, she is distilling feminism for her own benefit"

While far from an un-critiqueable (is that a word?!) section, there are more examples than the ones used that could back up this particular position. 'Taylor Swift' the artist isn't just her - it's a whole team. This is the same for every pop artist before her and every one after her; it's the fact she's reached such heights that makes 'her' so fascinating. It's kinda sad that we all at times forget to divorce her the person from 'her' the pop machine!

He reads off the lyrics and she thanks him for giving her the heads up and says he's really nice for telling her and that nobody will think she's crying over it or anything. She calls it a compliment

100% filmed today and they put out a song together.

  9. Wasn't the part she was upset about the part of the line he didn't read to her (based on that video)? The "I made that bitch famous" is what she was vocally upset about, unless I'm recalling it wrong.

Either way, the bloodlust people are approaching this with is kind of disturbing.

early impression: it still doesn't really disprove either of them? Still seems like it could be communication error

Like Taylor clearly approves of that lyric he read off, but he didn't read off the one about making her famous and calling her a bitch so it's possible she didn't approve or know of that line. But she also doesn't warn him against the misogynistic message like her statement said. It's possible they cut it out, but she was gushing so much it seems surprising she'd say that, unless there was multiple calls. I can still see where both would think they're right.

  11. I've always believed they both believe their own stories. It's the public and the way they're baring their teeth watching TS's "downfall" I'm side-eyeing

ia I think they both think they're right and I can see why

People love to tear down famous women and then build them back up. It's a weird pastime. But ppl also love a scandal. Not gonna pretend I'm above the bloodlust for gossip in general tho cause as soon as I got the text I paused Netflix, washed off my face mask, and refreshed my browser until it was posted about somewhere lol.

Swift says something like, "It makes sense, I mean, you really didn't know who I was before that" which I think implies that they're discussing the "made that b famous" line, but obviously it's not 100% clear

tbh I can't hear a chunk of what she says. I need those Keeping up with the Kardashian subtitles they do for calls

If it really was a communication error, which is what it looks like, then they should have contacted each other and cleared things up privately. I don't see why she had to make a big deal about it in the public.

That being said, I don't agree with the line in the first place, but she clearly stated she didn't approve any of the line, yet she's on video approving it. Veryodd that she wasn't upfront about it.

And just note, that I'm a Taylor and a kanye fan, so I don't want to see the downfall of Taylor at all. Just calling it like I see it.

  17. I mean it's not going to be the downfall of. Taylor Swift - it's embarrassing for her and we will all get our jokes in this week and then she'll disappear for a few months and then release a new record that tens of millions of people will buy

That's how I took it but got damn Twitter is losing its fucking mind. Like this isn't something career ending, imo. She looks bad whatever she's gonna be alright.

  19. Bears noting that the video doesn't show her approving the line she claimed to not have approved of. "I made that bitch famous."

  20. Trust me, I know this. I said downfall because that's how Twitter is characterizing this because they hate Swift THAT much.

  21. I didn't even realize you said downfall haha I've just seen that word everywhere on the twitter dot com machine

Was that the only line she didn't approve of? I could have sworn her people said that her and Kanye only had a conversation about her tweeting out a song, and that they didn't speak about mentioning her in a song. If I'm wrong i apologize, my memory is awful.

But she was ok with the sex line? Don't recall that. She's kind of like a reach to defend her from lying. Not defending the line. whether she approved it or not doesn't matter. But I think it's pretty clear she was cool with it until she saw an opportunity to play the crowd

I'm living for some of these tweets making fun of how everyone is acting like she killed the pope or something.

  25. That was the line she referenced being upset about in her Grammy acceptance speech. She never denied that conversation took place, only that she was never played the song as it appeared when he released it. Which according to that snapchat, was true.
