Not gonna rank them, but this, Lion King, Hellboy, Dark Phoenix and Serenity are all rounding out my worst of the year at the moment. But at least Serenity and Hellboy were interesting messes because of how much they missed the mark.

Ha, as far as interesting messes go, I actually really enjoyed Dark Phoenix. Stuck w/ me more than any other comic book film besides Endgame. Definitely more interesting to me than Far From Home or this.

And, yeah, Midsommar ruled, such a fantastic film.

I think Yesterday is my least favorite movie this year for how they messed up one of the easiest home runs ever

I’m sorta eating my words here but the more great films I see this year the more I’m starting to think Joker is less than fine. It might just be straight up bad haha

  12. It's at the bottom of my Top 10 for 2019 right now. I always have a couple garbage (according to the Chorus community general consensus) movies sprinkled in my favorites every year.

To be fair the Chorus community tends to rally around certain hot takes and then act like it's the majority opinion pretty often

also as someone who has argued about movies on this website for three years i reject the notion that this website ever accepts a "consensus" that would be considered a "hot take"

I think the Chorus consensus is that Clownman is a perfect masterpiece that will live on forever in our minds. Joker though....eh, not so much.

Seems to me like "consensus hot takes" are really just instances where someone likes a thing, & a lot of people around that person don't like that thing. It's kind of a weird way to dismiss honest opinions, instead of simply accepting that you enjoy something that's niche, sloppy, or both.

I really enjoyed this movie. I went in not expecting much and was blown away how much i liked it. Different strokes for different folks i guess

Also, if this is one of the worst movies that you've seen all year, then you must not watch a lot of movies or you had a killer year at the cinema

There’s no consensus site wide but I’d argue there are a handful of “power users” that if you happen to disagree with what most of them think then it’s really difficult to have a discussion about it without people practically shitposting for likes. It’s why I typically don’t discuss my dissenting opinions as much here but rather read along with the threads.

Yeah what’s actually annoying and has happened in this thread a lot is someone coming in with a less popular but genuine / good faith opinion and people just responding with gifs or other kinds of posturing to show how they’re so above it, like “this rube doesn’t even deserve my time, but also I want everyone to know it”

Also, the need to check in seemingly daily on something they hate or dislike to remind everyone how much they hate or dislike it or how bad it is. We get it, you don’t like it.

There’s gotta be a better use of time rather than repeat negative opinions as nauseam.

Yeah I pretty much get out of threads fairly quickly if I don’t enjoy the movie too much

  25. I try not to shit on movies too much, but I didn't mind reading through a lot of people's criticisms in this thread. A lot of people here catch things that I wouldn't or have insights that I didn't think of.

Didn't mean for my initial post to sound combative in any way. I've never felt like I wasn't allowed to like a movie because of anyone here, but also I don't really get in arguments that often.
