Watched the 1976 Carrie and 1954 Godzilla films yesterday since they both came out November 3rd. Solid evening.

Also finished the first season of Shudder's Creepshow this weekend, so good, stoked they got a season 2. And since it hit Shudder, I finally saw Wes Craven's New Nightmare. definitely my 3rd favorite after the original and Dream Warriors.

Not only do I need to finish Creepshow (we have 3 segments left), this reminded me about New Nightmare. Definitely need to watch that again. Finale of Marianne is tonight and then I'll be freed up for these.

Watched the original Texas Chain Saw for the first time last night. There’s a lot of screaming in that movie.

  5. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in One Cut of the Dead, considering all the praise it got.

I really liked Tigers Are Not Afraid. I found it very effecting and was surprisingly taken with it.

Same about Tigers Are Not Afraid. There were some elements that were kinda goofy but I fell in love with its charm and it made me rather emotional haha.

Lol I always think that about the screaming and crying in the original Halloween. Like I GET it Jamie Lee Curtis but also I have to watch it with the volume on real low lol.

Once when I was a teen my dad fell asleep to Halloween and woke up all disoriented part way thru it and thought it was me crying and screaming in my room and he like ran in my room in the middle of the night and I was like "......"

Probably going to see Doctor Sleep today and the biggest thing I am scared about is enjoying it more than The Shining which I have a great deal of respect for but just like The Exorcist, I have no love for it.

Talking to a pal at work about Mandy (he hasn't seen it) and that led to me putting Johannsson's score on, and now I am desperate to watch it again.

How did you watch the Exorcist? I saw it when I was young, and thought it was cheesy. Ended up picking up the blu ray because it was cheap and absolutely loved it

I swear this thread always mentions movies that I’m about to cover on my podcast lol. The Exorcist episode is dropping this week!

I saw it in my early twenties as I was working my way through several films that are deemed classics and with the likes of Don't Look Now being one of my all-time favourites even back then I wanted to see a different kind of horror film from that time. For whatever reason it just has never worked for me, I respect it greatly but films that are using that whole satanic horror element which was popularised by the likes of The Exorcist such as The Omen are films I enjoy a lot more.

As for Doctor Sleep, I enjoyed it more than The Shining.

    *ducks for cover*

I got to see The Exorcist last October in the theater and I was like there's no way this is *still* gonna fuck me up and sure enough I walked out thoroughly fucked up.

Love to see the positive reception to Doctor Sleep regardless!

A critic summed it up perfectly for me as he said if you love Stanley Kubrick you might not like it but if you love Stephen King then you most likely will so since the latter is true for me but I also respect what Kubrick did all the while Doctor Sleep is directed by someone I have not hated a single film from, all of which laid the groundwork for this film to help produce my favourite horror film of this year.

Interesting. Very curious to see how this plays out. I can't help but think of something like Luca's Suspiria that got somewhat divisive responses (haven't seen it myself). All I know is that I trust Flanagan and I really like everything I've seen under his direction so I hope it is successful.

Your trust isn't misplaced as he more than delivers, in fact he is the primary reason I wanted to see it because I have liked everything I have seen from him and I hope it is successful as all involved deserve it.

I thought the same thing. Watched the blu Ray the other night and I had my first nightmare in years

“What an excellent day for an exorcism”

Even though I always enjoyed it, I never really connected with the shining until I saw it in theaters last month. The cinematography itself makes that movie worth watching.

Im glad you enjoyed Dr. Sleep! Im hoping to see that this Saturday

I know everyone rags on Netflix for autoplaying during credits, but Shudder starts playing the next episode DURING the final scene and I hate it so much.

I can respect it plenty for the likes of its cinematography, score, production, performances and its atmosphere but it just doesn't manage to cross that line from respect for the quality that is on show into genuinely enjoying and getting invested in what I am watching. I hope you enjoy it as well.

As a kid I always thought the exorcist was funny and corny. Like her crab walk and man voice and stuff. But as an adult I have SUCH an appreciation for the movie and how effective and well made it is. I just bought it a few weeks ago actually but haven't opened it yet.

Ellen Burstyn’s performance and the themes around her character are so rewarding.
