RDR 2 would have been good if it actually utilised it's mechanics to serve the narrative and wouldn't bog itself down with copious amounts of input lag and game design that felt old last gen. The game itself shows how good it could have been if you look at its first 2-3 hours. Just incredible. Then it becomes dogshit.

All it needed was fast travel and 5mph walking in camp and I’d have loved it.

apparently the engine they use for the ragdolls (Euphoria IIRC) needs that long lead up time that's why all their games have higher than average input lag.

Man this Disco Elysium game looks awesome. Sucks I'll have to wait til next year to play it on PS4, but I really wish it was also coming to Switch.

This is where I'm at. Really, I would happily tolerate most things, including the outdated mission design, the lack of fast travel etc. I'm fine with all that. EVEN looking for stuff in drawers is fine in theory. The problem really is that mechanically, everything you do, no matter how good or bad it is conceptually, feels absolutely terrible. That's why I don't think it is a good game. It RDR2 mechanically felt like, say, Assassin's Creed Origins with some decent shooting added to the mix, I'd probably would have enjoyed it a lot.

EDIT: I don't think this is a unavoidable Rockstar problem either. Sure, GTAV doesn't exactly play as well as plenty of other games, but it feels nowhere near as bad as RDR2.
