Che can go, but I do like Jost to some point. Though, yeah, Im in the Dennis Miller generation, and loved the news then - Kevin Nealon was good too. Norm McDonald was good... then I stopped watching SNL for sometime and missed Amy/Tina - though the ones Ive seen of them, were quite funny.

Amy and Tina showed that having two people to play off each other will always be better. I remember being completely bored when Seth was by himself

Dennis Miller was fine by himself. Norm was too. But I was a huge Dennis Miller fan.

2 together is nice, but Che.... I've had enough of him.

At least when it was one anchor on WU, we got more great character work from other cast members. They ought to go back to that style next season, let some of these amazing performers in Heidi, Melissa, Cecily, Kyle and Beck (just to make a few; Aidy & Kate and Mikey & Alex seem to get a lot of time, deservedly so) bring back more frequent creative inspirations. What they do with Pete on WU is obviously a Sandler/Spade ripoff, letting him do his standup set essentially, and tbh, I miss the days when it was always Hader, Armisen, Wiig, Sudeikis and Pedrad with all these wonderful, weirdo character ideas. They don’t lean on that enough anymore.

Seth was a good ringleader for all of the guests WU featured. That dynamic changed with Jost/Che to where it's more about them. I've felt like Jost could work well on his own in a Seth Meyers-like dynamic, mainly because I think Che has always sucked, from "The Daily Show" to his stand-up to now, and has never justified a reason for being there.

He's low energy, stumbles over punchlines and clearly just wants to push the envelope and trigger people. Judging by his standup on that Seth Rogen special, he's definitely going to go a Chappelle route of complaining about the PC crowd and making gay/trans jokes.

wow wouldn't it be cool if we got our first ever solo woman anchor

EDIT: Okay, fine, Jane Curtin, but damn, it's been a while

I can't think of my ideal Update host because everyone I can think of already does characters but Jost and Che definitely aren't doing well

All the political sketches are also 80% bad it may just be impossible to be funnier than Trump is

Am I remembering this right... the very brief time it was Colin Jost and Cecily Strong until she was replaced by Che.

i'd say che from what i can tell isn't trying to push the envelope so much as say bullshit under the guise of pushing it

  16. Cecily would be amazing for Update but I wouldn’t want to lose her in other sketches. It’s obviously still pretty early but I have this feeling Ego or Chloe might be good fits

Che and Jost started out badly, then I think there was a real short hot minute for them where they were sorta killing it, and now I think the segment is in dire need of a shake up. Their dynamic has run its course and keeping them there in 2019 feels pretty tone deaf

Cecily was on the weekend update for like half a year.

That was also before Jost revealed himself to be an insufferable privileged bootlicker too. Better days for sure.

To be fair, I'm glad Cecily went to back to being part of the main cast because she's such a strong comic presence. But I still feel like she was done dirty with her leaving or being pushed out of WU.

She's the one who asked to be taken out of it, but with a better partner than Jost she would've had more of an opportunity to shine.

Wait now I want them to use Ego and Heidi.

Che and Jost should have been fired from update and as writers, which means they’ll probably stick around for years.

Yeah you know this is such a huge problem with their whole vibe. Jost treats the news with like a privileged detachment, as if the problems in the world exist solely to provide him with material and opportunities to smugly grin at the camera after a punchline he's proud of. Che just doesn't care about anything at all. It's such a fundamental flaw that sinks the segment before even taking into account the problematic jokes they've been telling or anything Che does off-screen on social media.

Yeah, for all the comments Amy and Seth might receive for being kind of typical rich neolibs, their "Really!?" segments did have some bite to them.
