  1. I created a website where I have complete and utter control over every decision. You think I don't realize my control freak nature? I've said it repeatedly and often for like 20 years :crylaugh:

  2. if they think they can make money off it, (they do, otherwise it wouldn't be implemented) they'll encourage it or advertise it

  3. i think its an interesting conversation about how modern tech has influenced the way we consume art imo

but play back speeds hasnt been implemented

  5. Fine. I'll trade one 1.5x button for no longer autoplaying trailers with sound when you hover over a damn show.

itunes ruined the album. at first it seemed like streaming was helping to bring the album back but now with curated playlists taking off i dont think thats the case

when its 2 in the morning and im trying to pick something to watch as i fall asleep and i accidentally hover over a crime drama with gunshots and shit in the trailer

  8. I've always been interested in consuming art and the medium itself. Seeing a painting in person, a sculpture, versus a reaction to it in a photograph, for example.

The best is when the auto play trailer includes a major spoiler in the first few seconds. Auto play in general is another great example of something that doesn’t really matter much on an individual user level but is a pretty big deal for how we take in content as a whole.

  11. wow very interesting im very concerned about this also

  12. They also use an algorithm to decide what photo/thumbnail to put on the show that will best convince me to watch it versus someone else. It's weirdly manipulative in so many ways.

Two opportunities for topical Mitch Hedberg quotes in one day? I’m truly blessed.

Yep. I see that all the time. Sometimes I even try to avoid checking something out if I’m afraid that the current thumbnail will send them the wrong message about me. I love so much about their service but a ton is also straight out of a boring dystopia.

Lol nobody said brands are woke for it. I'm sure that isn't Netflix's intention. Rich companies are in it for money. But that doesn't mean it doesn't provide a benefit to those people. Nobody is arguing about Netflix's intentions, just the benefits it provides. I hate constantly rewinding the same thing over and over due to my ADHD. Speeding up playback could help keep my attention focused, or at the very least, make things go a little faster each time I have to rewind to rewatch a 10 minute scene.

Sinema was gotten worse each month since joining the senate. When she was first elected I actually thought she could be good

Sinema was a raging anti-war activist and a big supporter of Ralph Nader so maybe if a progressive wins Arizona in 2020 she’ll be like “oh shit people like that let me change back to my old views”

but I’m not counting on that
