Seems like a place you would like because you tend to like good things

 

For what it is, a casual, quick option, we don't have anything around here that is comparable.

 

Have you ever been to a shake shack? Or an elevation burger?

 

I forgot about Shake Shack. I hate how much I like Shake Shack. I don't know why but in my mind I don't group those two places. Shake Shack's fries suck though.

 

I love shake shack. Their burgers and toppings and buns are so good. They have awesome root beer too. I love the crinkle fries... especially when they're cheese fries.

 

Love Five Guys fries. The amount they give you is ridiculous.

 

I will give you that Shake Shack burgers are great but Five Guys is far superior in the fry department. I feel like I always spend like 30 dollars for me and the wife at Shake Shack and like 20 at Five Guys so maybe I've grouped them into different categories by price.

Also, have you had the chicken sandwich from Shake Shack?

I wish that I could talk about this burger to more people. It's impossible to explain to someone who hasn't had it. I don't know why. I don't know what voodoo magic they do. It's so simple. That burger is transcendent. I have dreams about it.

 

Fuck. I need to go there. I'm making burgers tonight now.

 

It is worth any sort of travel costs you may incur. That burger is fucking stupid good.

 

gonz have you been to any of the other places those dudes own? High Five Ramen is an amazing experience.

 

Chicago is on my list of places to go.

Can you describe what makes it so good? What do you think is their secret?

 

The thing is that I can't. Like the burger is so fucking simple. There's no ridiculous artisan cheese, guacamole, secret Asian bbq sauce, spice rub combination or anything. It's just meat, Kraft American cheese, and a very simply dijonaise. But it is of the absolute highest quality. It is far and away the best burger I've ever had, nothing even comes close. I am incapable of doing it justice in words.

 

What about bacon or an egg? How is it best there? Or just with what you said above?

 

You can order it with a fried egg which I have not had and you can order it with bacon, which is actually more akin to like a thick fried piece of ham, and that is a must. A double there is 3 patties so if you get a double with bacon you basically get four patties, 3 beef, 1 pork. That's the way to go. But it doesn't come with lettuce or tomato or anything like that, even though I'm sure you could ask, but I think that it's best that it comes exactly the way it is because it's really about the quality of the beef and the perfection in its preparation. You can also get a piece of foie gras on it which I'm committed to doing next time I'm there.

I honestly wish that the burger wasn't so good because I've only eaten one other thing there, the bone marrow which was amazing, and they have a ton of delicious looking dishes and I never order them because I'm afraid that I will die randomly and regret that I didn't have one more of those burgers.

 

Also, I'm not sure if it's changed, but the other amazing thing about that burger is that for just a single, which is two patties, it's like 10 dollars. It's incredibly reasonable.

 

Fuck. Okay. I am going to make something like this tonight. I'm guessing their grind is like 60-40. Is there anything else you want to tell me about the burgers? Is the bacon sweet and peppered?

 

I actually prefer Five Guys to Shake Shack , I like a lot of toppings , ideal burger is brioche bun cheddar cheese and caramelized onions or onion rings with some sort of barbecue sauce and maybe like jalapenos

 

The bacon is basically thick cut, fried ham. It's probably closer to Canadian bacon than what we typically think of as bacon. Also the bun is super important. It's toasted on both sides and I believe is a potato bun.

We should have a thread field trip to Chicago. We can stay with my family.

 

I'm down. Your place or the Four Seasons. Either works. I've been dying to eat at a Rick Bayless restaurant (Lena Brava, Topolobampo, and Cruz Blanca are at the top of my list). Also have heard that Alinea, Next, and Roister are amazing.

 

I've not. I'm only in Chicago like once a year so it's hard to find time for places other than Au Cheval and a couple pizza places I like lol.

And agreed about the burger being so good you neglect the rest of the menu. Everything sounds so good but I can't not get the burger if I'm in town.

If you wanna feel bloated and miserable but also unbelievably happy you should order their fries with the bechamel sauce.

If you ever get a chance to go to High Five Ramen you should take it. It's located in the basement of another one of their restaurants that serves Barbecue. It's modeled after traditional Japanese Ramen houses so you basically get sat as soon as there is an open seat at the counter so it's not good to go as a group because you won't be sat together. Their specialty is really spicy ramen and it's amazing.
