I grew up catholic as hell. When i was at the age to do confirmation, I told my mom I didn’t want to do it. She said do it and if you change your mind to a different religion (which I had decided I was atheist at this point but she refused to accept that) I could. That shit was so fucking stupid. I had to go to classes every week or something, do a retreat, write an essay, get a sponsor......and do not get started about the retreat that was on my 16 bday and the bus got stuck in mud and it rained so hard the bus basically became an island surrounded by water. It took a lot of years of saying no but my parents do not even ask me to come to church or participate in anything church related. But my moms catholic New York Italian guilt trips for years would be like “for my birthday can you come to church...it’s what I want for my birthday” and I’m like can we just not go out to eat like normal people?!?
