They seem like they're like 50% of a good band that refuses to put it together IMO

Those bands are great but came a bit later so they weren't what I'd call catalysts in defining my music taste. I'm 30 so the few year gap in between me and some people matters. Like my friend is 27 and she got into those bands and sees them as "defining" in the sense that I see Yellowcard, Thursday, Senses Fail, etc. like.

However I didn't listen to Thrice but can see how they also played a similar role. Not sure who came first but it seemed right around the same time as Thursday.

Slint is like straight post-rock tho imo. I wouldn't put them and Thursday anywhere near each other

 

i'm gonna go listen to YT, I've never really gave him a listen

 

I prefer finding what I really like, and then getting really into that. I do try and listen to things from different decades that I haven’t heard or that I enjoy. Never hurts to try something new out

 

People say Thug and I think of Slim Thug, because that's how current I am

 

That’s true well maybe like American Football or The Appleseed Cast but the later wouldn’t have best Thursday by much. Idk post rock and emo (as well as screamo) have always gotten along pretty well

 

I always thought Young Thug's voice was so annoying but then I realised I listened to bands like Man Overboard and Sleeping with Sirens lmao

 

Sunny Day Real Estate, ATDI, etc. They all kind of fed off each other I think.

 

I think you’d need to look early to something that is probably more obscure than any of these bands. I wouldn’t call AtDI emo and tbh SDRE is on the chopping block at least after Diary. I love How It Feels To Be Something On for the record. I will also say there isn’t anything worse than talking what is real emo and what is not so I’m summarily ending to this aspect of this conversation

 

I am in no position to argue about what is emo and not trying to haha, I was mostly agreeing with your point that screamo/emo and other genres get along well because think of how many bands that do define as that were influenced by the bands we are talking about.

You're right that there were artists around that time that didn't last that had a huge influence we don't even realize.

 

Post rock is def a good genre to throw in the melting pot. Gonna listen to some Hum rn tbh

 

Any suggestions? I don't know enough but like post rock so would like to expand my tastes.

 

I saw Man Overboard 7 times when they were a thing. Good times tbh. I will also “defend” everything up to and including self titled
