    Maybe so, maybe not.

I sadly agree with the main complaint in Pitchfork’s review of Part 2: the production on this mostly sucks. :/

I wrote that review - thanks for reading!
I genuinely loved Part 1 (a solid 7.0 in my book) but this is exactly the kind of album I don't want from Foals.

Oh shit, haha. I think it might be a pinch harsh—not towards the album, but perhaps Foals' current state in general—but thought the majority of it was very fair. I definitely agree that Part 1 is much more consistent and all-around more interesting.

I remember a year or two back I was curious for Ian Cohen's ranking of Foals albums and he put the #1 album as something along the lines of "the one they are capable of making where they truly knock it out of the park." I kinda agree with the fact that most Foals albums have the tendency to fall off in the second half, but do think that Total Life Forever and Holy Fire are pretty phenomenal front to back...even if the first halves are much better than the second halves. That's more a compliment to the first halves than a diss to seconds.

I think losing Walter removes some of their ability to reach that high of highs, but as long as they keep blowing the doors off as one of the best live bands on the planet, I will keep supporting them.

    I prefer part 1 by a smidge. ¯\_(ツ)_/

Part 1 continues to be fantastic, but I can't help feel disappointed with Part 2. I was expecting Part 2 to be heavier a la Providence style.. maybe my expectations where set too high. I was hoping Neptune would at least be massive, but it just wasn't. The first three songs are great thou, but after that I'd rather listen to Part 1.

I’m definitely bummed by Part 2. Perhaps some of that is how good Part 1 is overshadowing it, but I don’t think Part 2 is very exciting on its own either...

I’d add Black Bull (don’t know where in terms of sequencing), Into The Surf, and Of Dreaming (ditto the Bull caveat) to Part 1 and call it an album.

Yeah for real. Part 1 under 40 and if you add a couple more songs it'll be around 50 still a good length.

FYI that their documentary Rip Up the Road is now streaming on Prime Video. It’s an hour and 47 minutes, nice.

Stray thoughts on Rip Up the Road:

Not anything groundbreaking in the grand scheme of the great music documentaries—this isn't The Last Waltz or Stop Making Sense—but if you're a Foals fan it's absolutely worth watching. If you're looking for some insights into their songwriting or what their music means, you don't get much that we don't already. Yannis wrote Everything Not Saved in seclusion in pubs and pub backyards. That's about it.

It's mostly a meditation of life on the road and their ethos being that they want to go out and play the best possible show every single night no matter where they are. Anyone who has followed this band for a while knows they are absolute machines when it comes to touring, and the movie gets that point across as they bounce around from England (the Ally Pally show is all the main live footage, Glastonbury, Splendour in the Grass), Australia, and Asia. The America part of the ENSWBL tour is really a footnote at the beginning, unfortunately.

The live footage from Ally Pally is really solid and sounds great. They include these songs pretty much in full, except Inhaler, which they truncated: Black Bull, Exits, In Degrees, Spanish Sahara, Inhaler, What Went Down, Two Steps, Twice.

Also, holy shit these dudes booze. I know that goes without saying if you're familiar but the hangovers mixed with jet lag must be exhausting. All the more respect for how hard they bring it every night.

Had a dream last night that I got invited on stage to sing "Late Night," a song I don't even really like.

Today, they drop a live video.

    Coincidence? Yes.
