I love the Trump vs Bernie stuff personally. I'm a big fan of James Adomian anyway though.

Kenney or Nutter? I thought Nutter was the bigger problem but I admittedly don't pay super close attention to Philly politics, even though I probably should.

"As for Jackson’s claim that the mayor has not done enough for the African-American community, Harris said, “In a perfect world, the black community needs a lot more than other communities. It’s just the way of life for African-Americans that we just have a lot of social issues. But is it fair to say the mayor should be the savior of the black community?”

Emanuel responds to broadside from Jesse Jackson Sr.

Question: where do democrats stand on Rahm Emanuel? Are there effort nationally to get rid of him? Taking the coverage at face-value, the new platform seems at odds with what he stands for, which is the New Democrat model of the late '80's and 90's.

The union money is one of the biggest reasons Jim Kenney were elected, and the union leaders have his back big time

Sorry if this has been discussed already in here, but what effect do the people in this thread think this will have on the election? It's probably not likely, but is there a chance she wins? If she doesn't, is she splitting the dem vote and basically guaranteeing trump? I am not nearly as well informed as the regulars itt, so again, sorry if this has already been discussed or if it's a stupid question.

She has zero chance of winning, but in theory she could get enough leftist votes to split the Dem vote and get Trump the Presidency. The Green Party has historically not polled or performed well in the general election. Ralph Nader got about 2.5% of the vote in 2000, and there's a big dispute among the left about whether or not this cost Al Gore the election.

There's definitely a chance Stein outperforms that 2.5% number, but there's also a chance that Gary Johnson steals some right wing votes from Trump as the head of the Libertarian party. He has been polling much better than Stein from what I've seen, getting upwards of 8-10% in some polls.

Its been discussed extensively. Some people think a vote for a third party is mathematically a vote for Trump. Some just bring up Ralph Nader. Others refuse to buy into the lesser of two evils argument because it perpetuates that very choice. Others just can't vote for a murderer. Many think the Nader and splitting the party stuff is exaggerated in this election. Some others think Hillary would be disastrous anyway.

Personally I couldn't vote for a war mongering corporatist so third party is an easy choice for me.

The question about Emmanuel was directed more at you and Lauren. (It isn't meant to be a gotcha question to start a debate or anything, but you folks seem more plugged into certain aspects of the party than those of us outside.)

Saint Louis University. I may be transferring to a higher ranked school because the frugality is starting to pale in comparison to having to deal with conservative morons. But if I stay, I reckon I'll organize some events with that.

Looking back at recent history, republicans controlled a lot of California in the '90's, at which point they pivoted and began attacking undocumented workers. These days, the republican presence in California has been decimated. Trump is taking this strategy to the national level, which will create the same result, regardless of Obama's deportations. I have to think republicans will usurp Trump at the convention, at which point the conservative movement will be split in two.

Not gonna lie, totally was confused when it said my post was quoted but it wasn't here haha

I'm not a big fan of Emmanuel at all. I could be totally off but it seems like to me that his rise to national prominence has been stopped with his pretty awful stewardship of Chicago. I never paid super close attention to the inner workings of the DNC but I got the impression 8 years ago that he was kind of being groomed as (one of) Obama's successor(s), and all that talk seems completely gone now.

My buddy that worked on the 2012 Obama campaign and is pretty "establishment", and is jewish, doesn't seem to be a big fun of him at all.

I certainly hope he doesn't assume another leadership position in the party going forward. Sadly he probably will.

Without reading the article (will read later!)
Rahm is a fucking disappointment. I really liked him (as much as one could given his personality) before he went to Chicago.

I realize the pressure of that city but he has embraced so much of what we know to be poor policy for the sake of politics. It's just disappointing.

I also think House Rahm was different. I think by nature of his seat there he was able to be somewhat more progressive. Which may be his true opinion but now looking at it I go with pandering.

If BLM has any institutional reach, I think Rahm is done within the Democratic Party, given that he attempted to cover up the murder of a black teenager for electoral purposes, as well as the policies that have had a deleterious effect on the black community in Chicago. It would certainly be detrimental to the belief that Hillary is serious about address systemic racism.
