Hey now. Look at you. Way cool.

My expectation was that they went with Love Never because its the one they've had most practice with so they know they can be really tight for a big TV audience.

At this point in their career, they can play just about anything in their catalogue, new or old, and sound damn good.

  3. They've also been rehearsing for tour and played a headline show last week so all bets are off!

i mean damn this song has the perfect structure

    -quick guitar intro
    -verse with only guitars
    -big first chorus
-fuller second verse with slight variation on vocal melody (the melody of "chase that love from people hurting you," coincidentally also one of the best lines on the album, separates it from verse one melodically) and all instruments
    -second chorus
    -quiet bridge build up
    -big guitar riff bridge
(these two are one of the best tools in JEW's songwriting arsenal. futures, pain, gets it faster, lean, if you dont dont, work, evidence, stop, etc. etc. all have some variation of this whether its build up firs then a big riff or the big riff and then a sort of come down then build into the next chorus, i think you know what i mean. JEW have perfected the art of the pop-rock bridge whether they use vocals or just instruments. sorry for the tangent)
-third verse used as end of bridge (love when bands do this) with the best line on the album (keep in mind theres a big big difference between letting go and running away)
    -final chorus
-beautiful outro riff leading beautifully into the title track by bringing us back down after a pretty rocking song.

ive said it idk how many times and ill continue saying it, through is probably the catchiest song theyve written, probably the best on integrity blues or at the very least in the top tier (i have it tied with pol roger and you with me as the best thing here), probably the best straight pop-rock song in their post-chase this light output, and could go toe to toe with every song in that vein on CTL, which is my favorite JEW album (sometimes, depending on how recently i listened to futures) and a masterclass in pop rock songwriting and execution. i laid it out for ya right there. through is perfectly structured, written perfectly, and comes up in the album sequence exactly where it should. any complaints about this song are invalid, sorry but thats just my opinion

Next Friday is going to be such a great damn day. This is dropping and then I’m seeing The Early November that night. My two favorite bands of all time on the same day. Going to be incredible.

I'm a little disappointed that all 10 of these songs aren't each as long as Goodbye Sky Harbor.

  13. People also forget that full length albums are generally around 40 minutes long. This Jimmy album is longer than Enema of the State and EOTS has 12 tracks. We're going to be just fine.

They recorded it yesterday. I think it airs tonight?

Yeah, it airs tonight. I don't even think Kimmel had a musical guest last night due to Stern being on and his segment was way longer than most guests.

Thrice albums Palms felt a song or two short when it was released. It was 10 tracks. They did a follow up release about a year later with the Deeper Wells EP which had four songs from the same sessions. At 14 songs for the Palms/Deeper Wells era, that felt perfect.

Also, if you’re a band with shorter songs, follow the Bad Religion model. True North (2013) had 16 songs that clocked in at like 35 minutes. Suffer (1988) had 15 songs and was 25 minutes.

Bringing this back to Jimmy, Integrity Blues era was rounded out nicely with 3 acoustic versions of songs. I’d be down for something like that with Surviving. Or as I said, a remix of half heart.

Track lengths don’t make or break a song for me. Short Music for Short People comp from like 2000-2001 really showed which bands could write a good 30 second.

Many of the my favorite albums the past several years have been 10-11 tracks, 30-35 minutes albums. Personally, anything over 40 can start leading to filler in many cases, so I’m down with 10 bangers that instinctively get me to hit repeat!

Was legit going to bring up how well Bad Religion does quanity vs length with their albums. One of the best bands to see live too bc you’ll get a lot of songs in a 30-60 minute set. It’s awesome lol.

On the other hand, Sum 41 did a great job with their new album too. 10 songs 36 minutes. It doesn’t feel too short at all.

Restorations' album from last year, LP5000, is 7 songs, 25 minutes, and absolutely perfect.

And I know metal is a totally different beast, but the new Blood Incantation album is 4 songs and 37 minutes and also absolutely perfect.
