I'm getting stressed out about end of the decade lists only because I now feel like I have to put one together but like how does one parse 10 years of music??? Exhausting.

I feel like it's just for fun for albums cuz like who the hell is gonna audit your list anyway if you go back and say "Actually I like X more" (Someone's gonna do this to me just cuz I said this)

i'm just going to study the lists for music i missed throughout the decade and not make my own. i suppose that makes me a bad person.

 

It's fun though! I like looking at a giant scope of things like that

 

I find songs way easier because I rarely listen to full albums

 

I'm doing both! There's so much music I've missed that I know my shit is pointless

 

But there are like so many songs and they're so different and hard to compare, contrary to albums which are at least a scope of things like idk omg it's overwhelming

 

Yeah I definitely don't think I can do songs lol, wayyy too much. And I'm not worried about what people think of my list, after all it's personal and my music choices have changed a lot in the past decade. That being said I feel like so much music has come and gone in that time but in certain periods of time certain albums were everything for me, but like I haven't listened to them in years so I have to make choices on things without being stuck in recency bias lol.

I think recency bias should always be present tbh, should always show bias to things you feel right this second cuz you might overcorrect later anyway

 

Oh I don't feel like I have to but I want to, however of course this means immediate anxiety about a completely arbitrary thing haha.

I actually think it'll be really fun to do it, especially for like 2010-2015 when I was going through a lot in my life and my music choices were always changing, like I started getting into pop music (Teenage Dream for instance would almost certainly make my list haha), was really exploring all these different types of music because of the changes I was going through and the people I was hanging with, I just think I might stumble on something I haven't thought about in years and it's almost like a personal journey.
