Imagine thinking Please Say No is radio friendly lol

  2. There are a lot of songs that build into some of the most brutal music they’ve ever written

Imagine stupid passive aggressive comments about opinions. Feel free to actually reply to my comment next time.

    "Pleeeease saaaay noooooo"

I like Chemical (probably the least of the three so far though) but I don’t think they’re helping themselves by releasing it as the third “single”. Hopefully the video they just shot was for Switchblade.

I believe a comparison to Erase Me is quite off base. No one really knew what UO was going to do with that record until we heard it.

Prada’s been evolving to this sound; it’s not out of left field. The past records have had glimpses of everything we’ve heard so far. If you want to give up on the record after only three curated songs for pre-release so be it.

  7. Also this album is NOTHING like Erase me

I don't understand this sentiment at all. Their stuff's gotten progressively LESS poppy with every album. They used "Daughter" as the lead single for Transit Blues, after all. There were way more soft or sing-along moments back when they were giving their songs stupid names than there have been in the recent music, so I'm assuming you mean Mike's scream-talking stuff, which I actually dig quite a bit. What I don't dig are corny-ass choruses ("Pleeeeeease say noooooooo") and whatever the fuck Chemical is. If you're telling me that there was a hint in their recent work that implies they'd release a track that awful, I don't know what to tell you. That track is just missing a feature by some 19 year old EDM vocalist to be a smash hit on the radio.

I dig Please Say No and Chemical but I do hope those are the only two slower tracks on The Act.

When they signed back with Rise, I’m sure a big portion of their fan base thought that meant something akin to their older sound. In hindsight, it didn’t really mean anything. They were committed to furthering a sound that could be heavy not only in the music, but also the lyrical aspect. The biggest takeaway I get with their music now is they’re looking at their songs as exactly what they are, songs. No longer a combination of parts, if it doesn’t serve the song as a whole we’re not going to hear the random breakdowns/heavy parts anymore.

Yes, “Daughter” was the lead single for TB, a safe song by their standards. “Line of Your Hands” is the same idea. These EDM wannabe tracks you speak of are just what they decided to release next.

Please Say No doesn’t happen if it’s not for a song like “Care More” off 8:18, or their Julien Baker cover. If they wanted a massive hit for radio they would not be with Solid State. Drew’s already said there’s rippers on the album so if you’re not vibing with what’s available now waiting isn’t going to hurt

Agree with all of this. However, I love “Daughter” so much. Not sure if I would see it as safe but I get what you’re saying.

Who’s singing chemical? I don’t hear Jeremy or Mike in the vox

Jeremy all the way through the two verses/choruses. Mike/Jeremy from the bridge until the end

yeah i like the album (got an advance) a lot but i'm pretty curious how people will take it. i think it makes sense as continuation but it's definitely out there. the heavy parts are really satisfying

  17. That’s what I like about this album - it’d be really easy to make it wall to wall heavy (which I like in a lot of albums still!) but mixing in some of the softer melodic parts or slower parts really makes the heavy parts heavy - makes those moments really matter. Especially in a song like Spiderhead where it just unleashes at the perfect cathartic moment to finish the record or the slow build of Even Though where Mike has these tormented wails behind Jeremy’s vocals.

I'm most interested in hearing the song at the end of that teaser.

@Drew Beringer @red8ge y'all down to let me know what song that is? O:-)

  21. Doing a discography run and I'm still disliking those early records a lot. The sudden jump in quality from With Roots Above and Branches Below to Zombie remains impressive.

Oh yeah - Plagues is pretty bad and Dear Love is just terrible. The band hates those records too and they're honestly a relic of their time.

... but I still fuck with Hey John, What's Your Name Again? haha

It's honestly Jeremy's singing that is just ROUGH lol

He was super young though and he sounds goddamn incredible nowadays by comparison.
