  5. Maybe less of a hot take but I watched ANOES 4 (Dream Master) last night and, idk, I really think outside of the original being a classic, this might be my last favorite of the major horror franchises I've dove into so fa

edit: A Nightmare on Elm Street as a whole, I mean

Agreed, I don’t think that’s a particularly hot take. It has some highs of course, but I don’t see much love or defense of its misses like a lot of other franchises.

Dream Master is pretty meh, but I feel the first 3 hold their own. The originality of the plot/concept and Robert’s characterization of Freddy make it for me.

Haha, I'm not saying it is leagues ahead of the other two (as I think all three are damn near perfect) and it doesn't quite have the same social commentary as the others but I'm a sucker for eighties aesthetic and the practical effects are superb.

F13 is clearly the one where the sequels are all better.

  11. I haven't seen any horror franchises, always felt low brow. Nothing wrong with that, I am keeping up with the MCU after all. It's just, my recent fascination with recent horror movies is in big part because they're just really good movies. I'm currently not really interested in starting up a series that's been around for decades, campy or otherwise.

Samara was easily the best part of the movie. Any time she was on screen I felt best watching it. I was a bit underwhelmed because everyone here seemed to love it, and I just sort of liked it. Found a lot of similarities with You're Next in the setting and comedic aspects, with a Cabin In The Woods twist ending on top of that.

A staple of my childhood. I credit Monster Squad and The Lost Boys for starting my love of horror films. MS got countless VHS rentals from the supermarket haha.

My wife and I went to Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando last weekend which is always the big kick off to our spooky season.

I had always meant to get around to watching House of 1000 Corpses for years, but never ended up doing it. Going through the house for it, though, made me feel like I had to finally do it because the thing was seriously so chaotic and all over the place. The scares were good but it was not easy to follow what was going on.

Anyways, we decided to watch it last night and, while I liked it, I realize now why the house seemed so scattered. The house really captured the look of the sets so well, and I could easily imagine myself back in the different sections as we made our way through the movie. It overall just seemed like a movie that was really ambitious and wanted to make a lot of different things work, but was a little overstuffed to the point where each little thing seemed undercooked.

Coulda used more of Sid Haig’s performance, which I thought was the most compelling thing about the whole movie, and was disappointed that he was only featured at the very start, a short scene in the middle, and for a couple minutes at the end.
