After sitting with it for a week and giving it a ton of listens, I am not feeling Nine. Blink is baldly trying to capture what is big now (massive vocal production and a ton of electronic and hip hop flourishes). I find it to be boring and, as mentioned by someone else in this thread, flat. I get it: they’re pop punk and the first word in pop punk is pop and perhaps modernizing their sound is a smart from a marketing and popularity standpoint, but I really miss when they had catchy and interesting guitar parts. Skiba is more than capable of writing intricate and different parts but I don’t feel like he brings it into Blink, which is questionable to me.

I think the bright spots are “The First Time” and “Pin The Grenade” which I feel like are Blink modernized without leaning so hard into production tricks that are popular on 2019 radio.

I am all for bands changing their sound and believe me, I would never want TOYPAJ/EOTS Part 2. If anything, THAT would be even more disappointing than how I feel about Nine. I just expect more interesting music from seasoned pros well into their respective careers.

Except the first time and pin the grenade would probably fit really well on toypaj.

Admittedly that's why I like them both.

I'll write you into all of my songs Supporter

Seems like you just don’t like it! That’s exactly where each of the members are at right now, and the electronic/hip hop flourishes are particular to Travis’ influence. The guitar parts, I might agree with you on, but the vocal melodies more than make up for the lack in that dept.

Remember to Forget Me is quickly turning into an absolute extreme top-tier Blink song for me.

I still can't rank the song on the new album yet, need to wait for the newness to wear off, but I thought it would be fun to list what my favorite moments/elements of each song are

The First Time - "First love, first high, there ain't nothing like the first time..." gives me feeling this vibes
Happy Days - the drums in the bridge
Heaven - Skiba's backing vocals, (specifically in the last chorus)
Darkside - Skiba's vocals in the chorus right after the bridge
Blame It On My Youth - Skiba's vocals in the chorus right after the bridge
Generational Divide - Skiba's distorted vocals or whatever you want to call it
Run Away - the transition from the per-chorus to the chorus, it flows so well
Black Rain - insturmentals during the verses
I Really With I Hated You - "won't you say something, won't you say something"
Pin The Grenade - the cleanness and beauty of the chorus. all of it.
No Heart To Speak of - Skiba singing "No heart to speak of"
Ransom - instrumentals of the last 40 seconds
On Some Emo Shit - that damn guitar after the bridge. Perfect
Hungover You - Skiba's vocals in the chorus right after the bridge
Remember to Forget Me - all of the "woahhhs"

Come to think of it, I really enjoy Skiba's vocals on this album

So, after a week with Nine, what would have made a good album name for it? I like “Nine” as itself, but pretend it had to be a song name or a lyric from a song. I also feels parallels and elements between this and Untitled and wouldn’t mind if it was just left untitled. Untitled, Too.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I really liked Beautiful Destruction, label prolly vetoed it for being too negative like No Future

“Heaven Doesn’t Want Me Now” would’ve been fitting.

“Blame It On My Youth” would’ve been hilarious with the reactions it’d get.

    NINE is alright, I guess.

Only things that stuck out to me was that Travis called Untitled "Self Titled" and also that they are really angsty.

I got stuck on "NINE, their eighth album". The overall review doesn't seem so negative though

I’ve always considered Buddha their first album. Mainly bc it was the first blink album I ever saw in stores back in the day. I find it hilarious that these media/review outlets refuse to acknowledge and accept that Mark and Travis specifically count it as the first album haha.

Even Wikipedia doesn’t have it listed under their discography lol.

There's a lot of places in wikipedia that say Cheshire Cat is their debut albim, Nine is their eighth or Buddah is a demo album. It would be long to change all that.
