it's absurd because the show is so actively centrist gotta make fun of both sides that Tina Fey continued that on to 30 Rock and made an episode excusing Tracy's homophobia

 

Except SNL is not centrist at all, it’s blatantly liberal. And their constant half hearted appeals to conservatives to give off the appearance of centrism are part of that liberalism lol.

Like, who in their right mind would believe that a single cast member — one who doesn’t do remotely political comedy (or even the more general “social commentary” Carlin/Burr/Chappelle kind of comedy) — would counteract Kate McKinnon dressed as Hillary unironically playing Hallelujah? Or three years of Baldwin’s awful Trump impression? No conservative who hates SNL for its politics would be even slightly more sympathetic towards it for that

It’s so unbelievably delusional that part of me doubts the truth of it. Like it fits too perfectly into the narrative that everyone expected lol
