Yeah that's kind of bullshit if you're the only one who received the warning. Your opinion was unpopular but you're entitled to it. It's true that many bands put shit albums out late in their careers and there's nothing wrong with wanting a band to go out on a high. You were simply worried that Jimmy Eat World might not. The way you said it maybe irked people who are defensive and excited fans of the band (I'm one of those people). The argument was annoying but it was just as much the fault of all the people who were piling on you and telling you to leave as it was you being defensive about your opinion.

Just because an opinion is a minority one, it doesn't mean it's wrong or toxic.

 

There is absolutely something wrong with suggesting a band give up their livelihood because you’re worried their next album might not live up to your expectations. Also, the mentality that bands or artists can’t make great art late into their careers sucks and is demonstrably false in many, many instances. It was a bad post that was always going to get blowback.

 

I can't wait to see them in November. Going to be incredible.

I think you could be a little more generous in your interpretation of Lenin's original comment. I'm perhaps playing devil's advocate in being a bit overly generous. But fairness lies somewhere in the middle I think. I don't think saying you hope a band quits while they're ahead is worthy of a warning. And "suggesting a band give up their livelihood" is just a slightly more cynical and less generous way of saying that same point. The wording was a little shitty but I think we're being overly harsh here. It's not good to alienate and push out people who have dissenting opinions I don't think.

 

i mean i don't know Lenin so I'm not gonna drag him out but even coming in and saying "new albums from bands this late into their careers tend to worry me because i fear the output may not be as good anymore" is a markedly better way of getting that point across that would not have garnered near the amount of backlash.

Yes, exactly. The wording wasn't great. But I think the reaction was also overblown. Everyone involved could have been a bit more measured in the way they got their point across. Like I said, I don't think telling people to leave and calling them stupid is a good reaction and it will only alienate and stifle people who want to come to this forum to share their opinions.

I don't agree with Lenin, and I do think the argument was a waste of time and an annoyance. But I think the reactions veered a little close to dog-piling, and I don't like the idea of this becoming a place of correct opinions and incorrect opinions.

This isn't what I said. I was just making the point that I would rather they go out on a high. I made no comment about their livelihood, I was literally just talking about it from a musical perspective, and it's really not a good look to twist my words after banning me when I can't respond to the shit you're saying. You literally banned me for having a different opinion. A giant man baby like you should not be a moderator. Why did you not get banned? Where you not "purposefully antagonistic"?

Come on. I get that a lot of you disagree with my opinion on the new JEW songs, and that's totally fair enough. But surely you can all see this is wrong.
