The first line of the chorus has the same tune. That's about it. Although personally I feel like the lead guitar in the chorus is also very similar, just way sped up for Archers. But I'm not a good guitarist so I might be way wrong.

  3. Need to see a venn diagram of those that love IAAN and those that don't think Archers is similar to the demo ... working theory is broken ears.

Banquet are good dudes. I ordered Deafheaven and Pinegrove from them and it came today with a little note telling me to check out the hotelier lol

So Brothers full band. Out Of Range on another? Shit. I wish they would talk about that song. Where did it come from?

Actually, upon closer listen and looking up some tabs, it looks like the bass at the end of the bridge and outro in Archers is almost the same as the last lines of the main riff to Battalions (so the part he plays during "I know you want to run away"). Both have an E string 7th-5th-3rd fret descent. I mean, it's a bass so it could just as easily be a coincidence, but Garrett doesn't play those notes in that exact order anywhere else in Archers, so it's probably just as likely that it's a nod/reworking. Vin is also doing something similar during the verse, but that's a 7-5-2-3 on a higher string. The lead guitar super echoey high E 12th fret thing is also present in both songs; it's the outro of the chorus in Battalions and happens at around 3:45 in Archers.

    . - . It's Brothers, 1996, and Missing You. Which is fucking perfect :D

EDIT: Someone on reddit also found this: . - .

Supposedly includes Mene and Out of Range.

EDIT 2: Someone already posted this and I'm not smart.

Archers and Battalions are about as similar as seven of the twelve songs on YFW

Listened to them back to back, and it's true. But I suppose you get to be right, so I'm tapping out of this argument.

  16. You respond saying something false and then say you're tapping out of the argument ... you're literally doing the opposite. And you're completely wrong -- hell, just a few posts above yours there's a break down of even more similarities. Even the band has talked about how they reworked the chorus for "Archers." It's been common knowledge since TDAG came out.

Are you catching any similarities besides the ones I listed? Nothing else is really jumping out at me.

There is a semitone difference between them. The last note is different and they're in a different key, but very, very similar.

Someone on reddit: "...it's only a 10" record, so only a maximum of 15 minutes on each side at 33rpm or 6 1/2 mins at 45 rpm"

The first one has both versions of each song, so they probably maxed out on the length.

Can you elaborate a little? Not saying you're wrong at all; just genuinely curious about the inner workings of music.

The melody is made up of descending notes that had there not been a semitone difference between them, would be the same. I'd imagine they wrote Battalions half step down and Archers in standard. The last note in the first line of Battalions descends to a different note though, this is the word 'tonight' in both songs. In Archers Jesse sings the 'tonight' as a higher note, probably because it suits the song better as an uplifting melody, which changes the vibe a little.

Meant to quote you on that reply.... New at this hah

This is interesting because the same thing can be said about the bass line I mentioned earlier. In Archers it's just 7-5-3, but in Battalions it's actually 7-5-3-open.

Whatever the case, I'd argue it's pretty clear that one was a jumping-off point for the other, and it's a little more complex than they just decided to throw in one similar vocal melody at random.

Edit: Nice username. Modest Mouse reference?
