I’ve seen some actual Bunyan statues and they always terrify me now. Seeing that would have messed me up. I’ve never made it to New England, but when I do I hope to make the walking tour of the landmarks he used for the book.

 

I'm from New England and didn't even know there was a walking tour of Stephen King landmarks :O

 

Yessss!! Here’s one I’ve seen mentioned before although it has a van and everything, lol. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a website as well where you can go more self-guided, I’ll see if I can find that too.

Why are you guys scared of the statue, it’s like the goofiest part of the movie lol.

Or at least top 10, this movie had a lot of fucking goofy parts.

only jump scares got me. everything else seemed so corny and not at all scary.

And giant plastic statues are creepy by default. One that has a massive ax coming to eat you is worse.

 

I also just took it as something Pennywise did to mess with Mike, not that his parents were actually drug addicts

 

Ya I also saw it as Pennywise preying on Mike. I assumed it was some racist shit he heard people say about his parents while growing up in Derry.

 

It’s so insane to me that a main character’s entire backstory was left to nothing but assumptions and a few pieces of subtext.

 

Why is that insane? That happens all the time.

 

Because they didn’t do it for any of the other kids, and the characters and their relationships/motivations were by far the best part of the adaptation in general. Also because they had five hours of content that made it to theaters, but didn’t develop an entire thread that is central to the story.

 

I mean, that basically happened in the miniseries too

 

Not really. The miniseries kept the racism he faced and his interest in Derry history coming from his dad, so his presence in the group and reason for staying behind out of any of them made sense. The series has huge faults of its own, but they got the people right for the most part.

 

Oh and apparently the Pennywise miniseries documentary is now a 3-hour cut, and I NEED IT. They just updated with some new info for the first time in months. Really hope it doesn’t get trapped in any kind of release hell.

I've never watched the miniseries. What's the general consensus on it?

 

It's definitely worth a watch.

 

It’s cheesy, dated, and they had to condense a ton of it, but Tim Curry is incredible, some of the scenes are totally terrifying, and a lot of the practical effects are fun. Definitely not perfect, but they nailed more than a lot of people give them credit for.
