I fucking love it. This is what I’ve been waiting for. I listened one time and I’m not gonna listen again until the preorder arrived.

Black Rain is kinda weird because it's definitely a Trio song but weird to hear a Trio song with Travis' signature drumming style instead of Derek's, and Mark randomly showing up here and there haha.

But it's also not 100% a trio song, definitely has the influences of non-trio in the style of it.

 

On Some Emo Shit is simultaneously the best and worst song title of all time.

 

Still a non-listener haha

 

I keep trying to rank these songs and I just... can’t. There’s great songs here, no doubt about that, but it’s this record as a whole that just works for me. It’s all so much stronger as one cohesive piece of art.

I still have two songs left but this is where I'm at right now. The songs I didn't like as much at first when they released them early, I like a lot more in the context of the album.

I will say my ONE complaint is the super...polished? big? Idk the right word I'm not a audiophobe type...production of the songs is making a lot of them blend together for me. I really, REALLY love that, songwriting wise, this sounds like a mixture of Untitled, Alkaline Trio, and +44, with a dash of Cali-Delux....but with the production qualities of California which kind of take juuuust a little off of the songs for me. I know it's ridiculous to ask for something to sound like it was produced in 2004 here in 2019 but if I have one complaint, that is it so far. I'd maybe back off the production and electronic elements a little bit and let their voices and instruments do more of the work. Not sure if that make sense to anyone.

Also I think saying this is about as useful as saying Patrick Mahomes is good at the football, but Travis absolutely kills it once again.

It's got some Feldmann vibes to it too I think. Feels like people forget that he can get pretty "weird" with heavier music. haha.

 

So first I had "A little drunk, waiting on your phone call. I wore cologne, to get the feeling right".

Now I keep singing "My god....you know how much I needed this" from "Cliffdiving" whenever Matt's verse in "Pin the Grenade" kicks in. Why do I keep doing this to myself?

 

The “leave me in the sun, I’m melting like a popsicle” line is so cheesy that it’s good.

Also makes me want a popsicle.

I was feeling a little disappointed that I wasn’t going to like any of the songs on Nine after listening to their singles, with the exception of Darkside since that track is killer.

However, I’m pleasantly surprised. I’m still not super into a decent chunk of the album but I could see the songs that I don’t care for really growing on me with time. Very happy I preordered the record and can’t wait for it to show up! Really loving Matt on this record too

Thoughts real quick;

This is exactly what I thought blink with Skiba would and should sound like. It packs the right amount of emotion and punch. I loved California, but like I said it was a safe album. Now that Matt got his feet wet, we get this and I couldn’t be happier. Not a filler song on here, even on California songs like TS and KOTW took a couple listens to click with me. None of these songs did that here these were instant likes. I don’t think I’ll be skipping much of anything on here, and each song is unique and sounds great. It’s 30% untitled, 20% +44, 20% alkaline trio, and 30% modern pop rock, and it makes for an awesome combination.

Off first listen my top 5 are:

Black Rain
Pin The Grenade
Hungover You
On Some Emo Shit
Remember To Forget Me

But I also want to include Heaven and First Time and No Heart. These are all bangers. Viva La Blink-182!

yep, very excited to let some of these songs marinate. today i'm already really digging Run Away after initially not being all that into it yesterday. honestly does remind me of my first time listening to some of the songs off untitled, like Violence and Obvious - the songs are brooding and really different, but they grew on me SUPER hard.
