  1. It’s so crazy to me that Matt has been in Blink for like 3 years already

Maybe you’ll be right, but I think 6-8 is a bit optimistic from Cali/DXL. They might play Cynical and a couple more. Depends how tired they are of Enema after this tour haha

Has Mark said what this new song is about? I was listening to it on my way home and thought it could honestly be a metaphor for writing music, creativity, writer’s block, etc.

Mark often says he gets hit with writer’s block to the point where he thinks he will never write a good song again. Sounds like he could be saying he’s better off when he has creativity and is creating music, he’s partly jealous when other people are coming up with cool music, etc. Its like a love/hate relationship with music and how lost he is without it.

Or I could be way off. Oh well.

Yeah I am being optimistic. I’d just rather see them play the newer stuff that they wrote with Matt vs. the older/deeper stuff. They can play those songs when Tom comes back.

I like the new song, but I'm still waiting to hear a Blink song with an actual guitar riff (Rock Show, Dammit, Man Overboard, etc.). California had literally none of that, and it doesn't seem like this album will either. I guess DeLonge wrote most of those, but between Hoppus, Skiba and 10 cowriters I would think they could come up with something.

I can't imagine Mark singing "I want you wrapped around me, but I don't trust myself" about Tom, even metaphorically.

I dunno they’ve said far more graphic things about each other than that

I feel like Mark gets way too much hate for his vocals now. Like nobody wants him to sing any part of a song lol. I still like his voice *shrugs*

Interestingly enough Mark wrote the guitar parts of Dammit, Rock Show and believe it or not WMAA.

I do agree with you that so far there haven’t been a memorable guitar riff on California or any of the new songs. Really there hasn’t been since the Untitled album.

I always thought the riff in Little Death was always underrated.

although mark has never been considered a "good" singer by standard definition, in the past songs like stay together for the kids, adam's song, i miss you etc had this sense of honesty / confidence that he just seems to be lacking lately. maybe it's an age thing or him not caring enough to try to sound like that again but it sounds like he's trying too hard with blink's new direction and it doesn't really work with his voice. it's also weird getting these lyrics from the same dude that wrote the +44 album. he obviously has it in him but when will we see it again?

For real. He’s not trying hard enough and trying too hard! Why doesn’t he just try the right amount? Cmon Mark.

haha fuck, good catch. if you listen to him in happy days in his higher register that's what i mean about having to try hard.

I think getting a Matt heavy setlist as opposed to a Tom one would be interesting but probably rare.

I don't know why its a cardinal sin on this board to express any sort of negative opinion on what the band are putting out at the moment. I'm not a huge fan of California but there are some really good tracks on there that I like - San Diego, Bored to Death, Home is such a lonely place. I love Matt - his solo stuff and trio stuff and I love Mark and Travis but I just can't get on bored with this new direction. The songs are so dull and they seem to be catering to an audience that frankly won't give them the time of the day. The fans like me who are in their late 20's or 30's want what they are capable of writing and producing yet they won't put it out. I really don't get how Matt can make is this thing cursed and then less than a year later put out blame it on my youth. The production on this latest song is horrible - electronic vocal effects and Matt gets a few token lines at the end of the song. You wouldn't even know hes in the band. I'm sorry i'm just really disappointed this time round.
