Same. It was a fine movie with good performances, but it’s not anything worth cheering about.

A lot of those movies deserve applause for finally being over.

  9. Honestly I’ve really thought about not going to see this in theaters for this reason and ultimately I probably won’t. I truly hope nothing happens but at this point I sadly wouldn’t be surprised.

You couldn’t pay me to see this opening weekend tbh, no matter how good it is. I’ll wait a week or two.

Is there something floating around online about theaters with this opening? I'm not sure I get the context of the last few posts in here.

just the fear that some incels would be motivated to shoot up the audience of a film they can "relate" to.

Tbh I don’t really enjoy going to the movies anymore for this reason. Rather watch something on the couch at home.

    For what reason exactly?

A guy literally dressed as the Joker and caused a mass shooting at a showing of Dark Knight Rises, not sure if they knew/remembered that when they made the meme though.

I would assume that's the exact reason they made that image.

Yeah, the dark knight shooter was James Holmes. But he didn't walk in with his guns, he went out through the exit door of the theater he was in during the middle of the movie, went to his car for the weapons, returned through the same exit door. I think he kept the door open with some object while he ran to his car to prepare for the mass shooting.

If anyone is interested, there's this really good book called "Heroes" by Franco Berardi. It's about mass murderers/suicide but focuses more on why ppl commit those kinds of crimes. There's a chapter on James Holmes.

Definitely will never understand the rationale behind someone thinking "hey I love this movie, so I'm going to shoot up other people who love this movie, too!". Not that sick people like that are rational to begin with

Yeah it's pretty complex. "Heroes" does address it in an interesting way

Incels won’t shoot up any theaters with this film. They don’t want it to get the bad publicity. If anything they want this film to not have any negative press.

Holmes targeted the screening because he knew it would be a packed audience opening night for one of the biggest movies of the summer. He wanted a higher body count.

This trailer was extremely off putting. I haven’t followed anything about it other than seeing certain stills and memes through osmosis, but finding out now who has latched onto it isn’t at all surprising.

At the end of the day it will come down to whether they put the joker in a positive/sympathetic light or a negative light to me. If it lands in the positive side, this movie can get fucked no matter how well crafted/acted it is.

Nobody is latching onto this. There was a cartoon posted that posited the idea that some fucked loner will sympathize with the Joker and maybe do something bad, and maybe a few twitter threads that have people worried this will inspire some sad men to violence. I haven't seen any realistic examples of this (relating to this movie, meaning I haven't seen any violence, or threat of, from a shithead praising THE JOKER)

Fucking PLEASE let's not start blaming video games, movies and TV for modern day gun violence.
