My anticipation for Halloween/Fall has also been running high and I've amped up my movie watching. So far it's been The Hills Have Eyes (1977), the last two JBB movies from this past season of The Last Drive In (Blood Harvest and Hello Mary Lou), and The Final Destination. Planning on hitting FD5 to finish off that franchise and Belzebuth next.

I was so bummed I saw Prince of Darkness and Phantom of Paradise on Shudder's "last chance to watch" and thought I at least had a few days, I had to go out of town, but I checked sunday and they were gone. I really wish Shudder would show the expiring date like hulu

I think the only movies I’ve ever walked out of were Envy (Ben Stiller, Jack Black) and Flight of The Phoenix (‘04)

Man, y'all weren't kidding about Dream Warriors. That movie was already bonkers before one of the kids became a wizard and Freddy became a skeleton. Absolutely batshit

  10. Also, I still ride for the Evil Dead remake so goddamn hard. Bloodiest movie I have ever seen

One remake I actually prefer over an original. The unrated cut is high-budget terror.

saw Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark last night! really enjoyed it. kids weren't necessarily the best child actors I've seen, but it was fun, enjoyed how they tied the story together, the monsters were great. solid entry into kids horror.

Got the chance to see both Crawl and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark today both of which I enjoyed the hell out of, not perfect but not far off as far as I am concerned. Horror films this year have been superb overall with those two and Us, Child’s Play, Annabelle Comes Homes, Pet Sematary, The Hole in the Ground, Midsommar and Brightburn all at worst being enjoyable and at best being a recommendation.

  15. Rewatched the Friday the 13th remake last night and honestly, it was a lot better than I remembered. I'd probably rank it somewhere in the middle of the series

I really want to watch this one. the stuff I've heard about it I really like, so I'm curious. is it streaming somewhere?

yes! Loved Crawl, can't wait to watch that again. Really really enjoyed Scary Stories. Happy to see solid kids horror coming back. it really has been a solid year. I want to rewatch Pet Sematary as I've seen a lot of people higher on that one than I was. Haven't seen The Hole in the Ground or Child's Play. Really want to see Brightburn.

I put in the bottom half of my rankings, but not nearly as bad as the Elm Street remake

hmm, interesting. I've only seen part of the Elm Street one and had to turn it off.

I really loved the first Elm Street and Dream Warriors was fun, everything else i'll likely not revisit (haven't seen New Nightmare yet). F13 I've got Part 2 as my favorite, then Jason Lives, then probably 3 because of the terrible 80s 3D haha, 1, 4, will never watch 5 again. Takes Manhattan was ok, and I haven't seen Goes to Hell or Jason X yet.

Glad to hear you enjoyed them both as well, find it funny that nearly half the films I have watched so far this year have been horror films since most years there have been usually only two maybe three standouts.

I really loved that F13 remake, just plain dumb fun. I’m ready for another round.

  22. Wait, the Evil Dead with Jane Levy? It's good? I miss Suburgatory so, so much, but she's done mostly horror since then, and I didn't really develop an interest in horror until very recently.

Has anyone seen Don't Breathe? I know the twist, and, ew, so I probably won't watch it. Just wondering if anyone else has.

  23. Evil Dead (2013) is very good. It's super bloody and violent, but it doesn't feel cheap. I think I remember you being more into the "prestige" type horror movies, which I would say Evil Dead is not. But if you're in the mood for a bonkers cabin in the woods bloodfest, I highly recommend it. It's become one of my faves.

Evil Dead remake is excellent, and I very much enjoyed Don’t Breathe.

  25. Yeah, both are very good imo

In fact, Evil Dead is almost certainly in my top three favorite horror remakes. Puts in infinitely more effort to be its own film than any of the Michael Bay produced reboots of the 2000s
