Call me cynical, I just highly doubt that there are good starter quality quarterbacks that are backups for years.

I’m not ignoring anything. He’s played 1.5 seasons’ worth of games and was below average and the only reason he’s even getting a shot right now is because a starter retired out of the blue.

He’ll be fine. He’s not gonna replace Luck, no one can, but he won’t cost them multiple games like a Bortles or Peterman.

 

You literally are ignoring that by calling him a career backup. He was back-up to TOM BRADY and then traded to the Colts, who valued him highly enough to refuse high draft picks, knowing that they very likely will have to turn to him as their starter and now they've re-signed him. What's not to get haha

And yeah, a team who’s starter retired out of nowhere is going to have their backup (who we saw play practically a full season recently) start for them this year and possibly next because there’s basically no other option. Who else is available to bring in instead?

And you keep glossing over how historically bad his roster was the one year he played. It’s much improved since then. He’ll be fine.
