    Here’s how I remain consistent.

I think the cowboys need to and should sign Zeke. I think they made a mistake centering their entire offense around Zeke, but that’s where they are now and if they don’t go all in on it they’re back to square one.

You are a fool. The Chargers can’t ride Rivers much longer. Gordon is a franchise piece. Don’t care what position he plays if he’s moving the ball and scoring like he does despite opponents focusing on him.

    Lets Go. Prestigious

Mevlin Gordon is absolutely not a franchise piece

Chargers offense will still be good without him

He’s 26 and he will likely be good for his whole second contract. I’d give him 4 years and guarantees frontloaded the first two years.

Not once Rivers is gone! Keeping the RB in place buys them time to develop a new QB while still having some consistency

Let’s not pretend Rivers has years left in his tank the dude is like 40. Chargers offense is good as long as he’s there, sure. Imo the timing makes signing Gordon a good call because they’re about to have to go through some metamorphosis in their passing attack.

How in any world did you just settle on “likely be good his entire second contract” despite historical and injury evidence to the contrary.

Also lol at “their offense will be bad once their hall of fame qb retires” because duh. But the response isn’t to go all in on Gordon it’s to find a new QB.

Historical evidence supports most upper echelon RB are good until about 30. I’ve explained this multiple times, the only reason there’s hardly any good old backs right now is because none of those backs were good when they were young either. There was like a 6 year period of drafts that seriously lacked RB talent and now by coincidence all the good ones are young. And that’s why everyone is all “OMG runningback is devalued they suck once they turn 25”

Like for several drafts in a row it was just McCoy and Bell basically, no one else good. And then good backs like Gurley, Gordon, Zeke, CMC, etc started coming out of the woodwork again. I think all those dudes will still be very good at 28-29.

Nah, I’m like “RBs are devalued” because as Dustin acutely points out, the chargers have had no problem finding RBs for like 20 years. It’s not a hard position to fill lol.

I’d honestly feel so much better about RB second contracts if the giants just gave Barkley his money now. The CBA is so skewed not in that positions favor.

It’s only not a hard position to fill if you’re a spread offense team that only runs the ball for balance. If you are at all focused or committed to running the ball you need to commit to the talent.

If you’re that committed to the run game you’re also pretty committed to not winning a Super Bowl.

    The rivalry is back on

I’m gonna blow a gasket if I have to correct again that we fact checked this in this thread earlier this season and it was around 50/50, which is not “most”

You can still make a fair argument for this without making wrong assertions

I'm with Dave, there are teams who have been committed to the run, lost their stud, replaced them and didn't miss a beat because of their overall system/talent that they have. Big money on RBs is not the worst money you can spend but far from the best.

Like put this another way. If the Cowboys could snap their fingers and magically Dak is replaced by an all-world QB, they’d say “Zeke who?” So quick it’d make your head spin.

That’s a misrepresentation of the context. The number was 50/50 for starters in general. At which point I said, 50% is a damn good number of teams to have a franchise back, compared to how people view the position.

My statement was that “most *upper echelon* RB are still good in their upper 20s / low 30s” and that’s definitely true if 50% of the league had longevity in their runningback situation through the mid 2000s. That statement is not affected by the other 50% of mediocre backs who fizzle out once they lose a little speed. I didn’t say just “most RBs”
