Still debating seeing this, I know the script leaked but for anyone who saw it, are the added scenes worth it?

They aren't really extra scenes, more like, extended scenes mostly. Still flowed very well even with the longer runtime. Definitely gave more depth to the characters, and to the rituals. As I expected, I, uh, enjoyed? this viewing more because I didn't have that lingering sense of dread not knowing what was going to happen the entire time. Flo's performance is absolutely stellar, particularly in any scene that lingers on her face. Dang I love this movie.

  5. yes

edit: in all seriousness, the script doesn't have Flo's performance, so.

  6. Director’s cut of MIDSOMMAR made a great movie even better - the extra 30 minutes added so much more incredible context and character motivations

  7. And Christian was terrible in the theatrical cut but he’s down right vile in the director’s cut

Pretty pissed I can’t see this and I gotta miss out on it since Ari wants to be a dick and not put the DC out

Fucking great. The night ritual was wild. My mind wasn’t spinning in anxiety as much this time around so I appreciated all of the foreshadowing that much more.

I noticed this round that you can hear Connie and Mark‘s screams in the background when they’re killed. They seem to have the baby crying in the guest house intentionally to drown out the screams.

Additionally there seems to be some implied canabalism. When the group first enters Harga there is a procession of maids with a man in front who dumbs some ribs and bones into the eternal fire pit which is used to burn the members of Harga to disperse their ashes at the ancestral tree. The procession behind the man is a line of women who serve some sort of meat to the Harga and their guests. I’m fairly certain it was a human sacrifice.

I need the blu ray to come out soon so I can rewatch it a ton and pick up on as many little things as possible

  14. I don't remember that scene, but I do remember thinking, on both viewings, Where are they getting all the meat?

  15. Just noticed Florence Pugh is in another horror movie called Malevolent on Netflix, has anyone seen it?

She was also in Fighting With My Family which I saw earlier this year. Didn’t realize it was the same actress when I looked her up after seein Midsommar.

watching in a few minutes ahhhh

  18. She's great in that, too! I'm pretty sure I knew going into Midsommar that it was the same actress, but holy hell, it's like she became a completely different person!

Florence Pugh is such an amazing actress. Anyone in here should look into watching Lady Macbeth, her performance is great.

i like this version so much more. those extra minutes really help, and especially the back and forth between dani and christian. also enjoyed chidi’s (ok fine, josh’s) extra dialogue accurately describing Christian’s whole thing. agree with the night ritual, that was really fun to watch

and man, i was so excited to rewatch this so i could see dani’s apartment. it just looks so cozy af and i really need to redecorate soon

I heard Connie’s screams, but I must have missed Mark’s. I really hope this gets a physical release so I can watch again (although there still is time today).

My wife actually agreed for round 2 knowing full and well it’s the director’s cut. I was originally going to wait for the digital or physical release, but without knowing for sure if it will be released or not, I didn’t want to take any chances.

Regarding the night ritual in the DC, was the boy actually going to sacrifice himself to the river? If Dani hadn’t of stepped forward, were they going to follow through with that?

Also it was nice to see Dani show some logical and critical thinking right after that scene when her and Christian gave the big fight. Dani can’t get it through to him that everything is wrong and these pagan human sacrifices were no joke and she was ready to get the fuck out. Christian being so damn ignorant wouldn’t see or hear her logic - because all of a sudden - this was his thesis here at Hårga (phone auto-corrected that spelling).

I’m pretty certain I heard Connie’s screams in the theatrical cut, but still don’t remember Simon screaming.

In the theatrical cut, we don’t actually hear Simon wheeze/breathe during the blood eagle scene do they? Because its very obvious he is meant to be alive.

As to the cannibal reference, I’m pretty sure whatever was being served on the table right after Dani was crowned May Queen was definitely human remains (I think Connie’s)
