Asbury used to be real rundown. Not a nice area at all to visit. Now we are complaining it's too nice? What am I missing here?

There should be a happy medium. Going from lower class to upper middle class in a matter of ten years is not how things are supposed to work. People are being dislocated due to landlords knowing they can overcharge people for rent and force them out of their homes.

That is a bummer. But anything is better than an area where you fear for your life walking around at night. Happy medium seems like an impossible task these days. Quite sad.

I always find it relative what areas people see as sketchy or dangerous areas. I dunno, just an observation.

I havent been to Asbury since like 2007. So i'm pretty naive as to what it's like now.

Basically, everyone has a different idea of what a sketchy area looks like.

It's hard to deny places like Paterson though.

Eh, I've had people come to my town and think it's practically Paterson. In fact Old Tappan and my town has a program between their High School Sociology classes that had a student swap day program thing because my town was close enough to Newark for them.

    Belleville.

Fun fact: One of the top 10 towns in NJ to get your car jacked and I can attest to that.

Very fortunate to of grown up there. My pops worked his ass off to move there to raise his kids. He had a pretty awful upbringing and didn't want that for us.

Still doesn't change the fact that a place like Newark unfortunately has one of the highest murder rates in the country. I think anyone would call that place 'sketchy'

I live in Morris County. Speaking of car jackings:

Be sure to drink your Ovaltine.

I don't go back to NJ often but when I do and go out, I usually go to Boathouse with my brother. Thankfully I haven't run into anyone I can't stand seeing so that's a relief.

The real hot spot is Tom's Tavern in Farmingdale.

Yeah, good thing you haven't run into me. I'd have some choice words.

signing closing papers on my house in Brick next week!!

and as henry said - seeing the transformation of asbury has been nuts. my dad hadn't been since he took me to skate and surf in 2002; we went for dinner there the other week and he didn't even recognize it. but shit like closing down the lanes happens everywhere. happened to the court in new brunswick. granted, the court tavern still puts on shows but its nowhere near as sincere as it used to be.

Moving to a place in Somerville. Stoked to be out of the Pokemon Go hellhole that is Hillsborough. Anyone know any other good spots for Pokemon Go in driving distance of Central NJ. Pref with good food nearby?
