Joke made by internet stranger = not okay

President of the United States admitting to sexual assault, locking kids in cages, making fun of the differently abled, saying "bleeding from her wherever", constant racist name calling to opponents, enticing violence against dissenters, using the office of the presidency for personal financial gain, defending rapists, defending child molesters/pedos, enabling white nationalism, defending white nationalism, sharing posts from white nationalists, war mongering, wanting prosecution to journalists and dissenters = it's okay because he's a good businessman and the president ok duh

I mean....... Antagonizing and arguing back and forth about random junk is all distracting from the initial post. It's not just those burying their head in the sand it's like The Whole Thing. The last several posts are just ppl going back and forth at each other and none discussing the abuse. It's what used to happen in the accountability thread too. I'm just saying.... Men, be careful that even if u have good intentions u are also not causing the point and convo to be buried and distracted.

And for the record, I'd been a regular in this thread since before California even came out. This is the thread I've most frequented and posted in for the past few years. I have gone to multiple Blink shows a year since Matt joined, scraping together nickels and dimes to travel across country to do it. I've slowed down posting here because while I still wanted to support the band, Travis and Matt's behavior left a sour taste in my mouth even from before.

That aside, I shouldn't have to say all that for the fact that 3 grown men have made the decision that working with a notorious homophobe and woman beater for you to take a step back and consider what making that decision means about them as people and admit the reason you're defensive about it being brought up by anybody when they're the ones that made the decision is that you have to consider yourself what it means for you to continue to support people who would make that decision.

See, that's exactly why I have difficulty taking all these kinds of conversations on these threads seriously. They always start with very valid points, but then it quickly becomes totally antagonizing and drifts away from the issue at hand to become mostly childish insults. Even if I agree with the argument that the whole thing with XXX-Whatever is pretty shitty, the whole antagonizing attitude makes me actually discredit the whole conversation, which is the exact opposite of what a good argumentation is supposed to do. There's a good way to pass a point, and being insulting and antagonizing to others ain't it, no matter how hard you disagree with their views. I mostly stay out of all the arguing here because I feel like whatever I say I'll get shit on and it'll lead to a very unproductive conversation.

Why does someone have to come up with a "good argument" as to why it is abhorrent to work with a homophobe and a woman beater? For the record, nobody who pointed out the fact that that is wrong to do and why was antagonizing to anyone in this thread until someone came along and made the sarcastic "we stopped the song from being released" comment. Why do people pointing out how shitty it is to literally laugh and make fun of woman and lgbtq+ people for being upset about such a response need to be toned police into reigning it back in when they're not the ones who committed the offense in the first place? Why does someone who laughs at the situation and makes fun of the people who are rightfully upset get to "ruin" the discussion on "both sides"? What kind of sense does that make?

I mean, my issue is when the initial topic starts getting strayed from and ppl start bringing up other things that distract from the point. But if childish insults makes you discredit an argument against horrific abuse, I would take a look at why that is

I don't discredit the argument, but I will discredit the people who will defend an argument with insults.

  14. I've been interested in what the band might get up to after California but Travis working with abusers, the Neck Deep support slot and now the Xxxwhateverthefuck situation have killed my interest in this band stone dead. Just because I rarely post in here doesn't mean I can't express my opinion that blink-182 are doing a really shitty thing by posthumously collaborating with an abusive scumbag.

What’s the crossover of users digging their heals in to dismiss the problem with the xxx collab while also lambasting lil Wayne when he was an announced tour mate?

    Confusing times

Edit: ah I see that @Joe4th may have already touched on this now that I caught up in the thread

And for the record, both sides people, I’ve seen plenty of good arguments for why this is not a good idea/good look, but I haven’t seen one good argument in support of it.

If you feel spurned at all by the fact that some non-regular thread members are raising an issue with the band you love, maybe try to take less personal offense and reflect on why it is you continue to financially support a band of immature child men who seem to have very little tact.

Why the assumption of personal offense? I'm an old old man and I'm not actually defending the band for exactly what you said, you can't defend them. I point out several indefinable things blink has done to fuel the fire.

I'm challenging those who opted to voice their concerns to go the extra mile...get this thread shut down, have Jason address how he promotes toxicity by not completely banning all things blink (similar to how he did for brand new)...to come in and make personal attacks (someone's political views were brought up? Seriously guys?) and then say "why are you taking things so personal" only serves for fleeting self fulfillment.

Also can't help but notice that some of those attacking the band have financially supported this website, and by extension, this thread. I call on you to ask for your money back until blink is banned from here. Step up.

This has happened before, folks storm the thread, mean names are said on both sides, nothing changes, then those individuals leave. Notice how this threads regulars are all quiet, they've done this before. The thread wins, blink keeps being discussed and promoted.

    Go bigger.

This seems like one of those apathetic bunk political arguments where just because someone isn't doing everything to change an entire system themselves any action is worthless. I don't even think blocking all things blink is necessary? It's not even the same as brand new. As far as I know they haven't assaulted or abused anyone. It's something they can learn and grow from if their fans speak up. But ppl doing nothing doesn't help or change anything. And placing that responsibility on those who are already speaking up isn't productive either. Like I eat veggie for environmental reasons. I do what I can but at the end of the day I still contribute to the carbon footprint and consume things I don't yet have an alternative for. It doesn't mean I need to throw my hands up and go "welp, can't be 100% all the time so no point in trying to reduce waste!" I also am not a huge fan of capitalism but I still buy goods in exchange for money and work a 9-5. At the end of the day ppl do what they can, but it's not on them to do everything. It's on ppl to listen and grow
