Trust me I wish I loved both Lovers.

But anyway don't want to derail this thread. Only listened through once but so far Crystal Creek, Lose You, and Older have stood out. Immediately going back for listen #2

My favourites after one listen were Wild Horses, So What and Crystal Creek.

This is a great record, and follows a sound I never knew I wanted from Noah.

    what a waste of wood

i just saw it reminds people of Red? Maybe I'll check it out eventually if that's the case. It's the only one I really enjoy all the way through..

Musically, it's kind of a mix between Red and 1989. Lyrically, though, it definitely feels to me like the sequel to Red.

One listen in and I really like this.

It also feels like a grower. In a good way.

    Very excited about this.

I think I'm growing into someone you can trust

Great review Craig. Think you nailed what I ended up feeling about White Noise, that it was almost a chore to listen to even though there were some standout moments. Lover definitely feels like its taking the best things from the past 8 years of Noah's writing and creating a record using all of those things. Its an evolution of sound from White Noise while leaning back to lyric writing from Carry the Ghost and Ledges while drawing thematically from his EP Family (mainly "Honest Songs" and "Garden" I think).

Can't wait to spin this more and pick up on more things to fall in love with.

AOTY contender for me for sure, competing with TDS for that spot.

Is that a typewriter on Audrey Hepburn? Whatever it is, it's one of my favorite parts of the song.

Listened to it several times more now, and many of the songs have grown on me. I would say that by a mile this is his most creative record, but also it’s not my favorite. “Kamikaze” is a absolute standout, as are “Wild Horses”, “Crystal Creek”, “Audrey Hepburn”, and “So What”. I can’t get into “Out of Time” or “Little Cup” at all, but that’s okay. Noah is worth the repeated listens. Still a fantastic record overall from a production, performance, and creativity standpoint, even if it doesn’t all gel with me.

This album is fantastic. I’ve followed him pretty closely since before Ledges and have enjoyed every album and the progression since. Can’t imagine what he’ll sound like in 3 years, much less 10.

He really has been a super special artist to follow this decade. Definitely one of the core pillars of my 2010s musical development.

I’m moving next weekend and I’m sitting out on the balcony with some whiskey and listening to this. Making me pretty emotional.

Jesus, this album. I almost can't listen to any of the songs anymore without getting emotional. The lyrics are hitting a little too close to home.

The Robin Williams line makes me want to take a depression nap and not even listen to the rest of the album. The audacity he has putting that shit at the beginning of the album.

His IG story has his acoustic set from last night (with Abby and a keyboardist). Sounds great.
